dcol 175 Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) What are the best Decoder/Encoder recommendations for a system with QuickSync and Nvidia. As for the Encoders, my assumption is these are used when converting to mp4. Here are my settings As for the decoders, I assume these are used when decoding live TV streams. Here are my settings (DX11VA is from the Beta) So, what is the best recommendation with these options? Edited January 17, 2019 by dcol
Luke 42085 Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 The best is always "it depends". In your case you have two hardware options so you have to look at the performance between the two. We recommend trusting the defaults and helping us improve our out of box settings. @@softworkz may have more insight.
dcol 175 Posted January 17, 2019 Author Posted January 17, 2019 I cannot use the auto setting because Emby incorrectly invokes the Quicksync Nvdia selection and the streams do not work. I cannot get this system to make the Intel adapter #0. So am I correct in my assumptions where the decoder decodes the Live TV stream, and the encoder is for conversions to mp4? I also assume that performance is not as much an issue as quality with the decoder referring to Live TV streams. Seems the stream is a lot more stable using DX11VA with EXO player
Luke 42085 Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Why do you feel QuickSync should not be invoked?
dcol 175 Posted January 17, 2019 Author Posted January 17, 2019 Not sure, that's why I asked for recommendations. Should I use QSV as the first?
Luke 42085 Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Well, I think we should look at your QSV problem and try to resolve it.
dcol 175 Posted January 17, 2019 Author Posted January 17, 2019 You mean the Quicksync nvidia H.264 decoder that appears in the list? I would like to solve that too.
Luke 42085 Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Let's look at an example using the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. thanks !
dcol 175 Posted January 17, 2019 Author Posted January 17, 2019 (edited) What? Created this post Already explained the issue There are no errors to report, screenshots are above Here are the logs. There are no timestamps since the bogus Quicksync nvidia H.264 decoder is always listed embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-730fc131-23e0-435d-9253-33a26a7e4627_1.txt hardware_detection-63683320434.txt Edited January 17, 2019 by dcol
Luke 42085 Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 If you have a QuickSync GPU, then why do you feel that it's bogus to be listed?
softworkz 5073 Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 @Luke: Those entries are in fact bogus. "QuickSync Nvidia..." that's obviously wrong. @@dcol - Hadn't we already discussed this in another thread? I apologize if it was another user, though. Short story: the "QuickSync Nvidia..." entries are coming from a bug in the latest Intel drivers. We're working on a solution. Until then, please just uncheck those entries.
dcol 175 Posted January 18, 2019 Author Posted January 18, 2019 No, I was in the other thread. The subject came up here though.
Luke 42085 Posted January 18, 2019 Posted January 18, 2019 Got it, I understand. Thanks for clearing that up.
