Strange 'Various Artists' bug?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Fresh installation, 4.0.0.1 (upgraded to 4.0.0.2, same problem) on Windows.

For some reason, Emby is calling any music tagged with 'Various Artists' in the albumartist field "Kanye West presents G.O.O.D. Music"

I've scanned the library, and refreshed metadata, but it still insists all of my soundtracks and compilation albums are by G.O.O.D. Music.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, if you go into that artist, does it have a music brainz id? Or other provider id?

Posted (edited)

No, it's empty.

It has a musicbrainz album and release group, though.

"non-album tracks" fixed itself overnight, but my compilations and soundtracks are still showing up as G.O.O.D. Music. Weird.

Whoops, I was looking at an album.

On the artists page, it the muscbrainz ID is https://musicbrainz.org/artist/89ad4ac3-39f7-470e-963a-56509c546377

Can you try refreshing metadata on the album? Thanks.

Sorry, I just renamed the artist and locked it.

Probably just a fluke thing if i'm the only one complaining.

Actually i can see a scenario where it might happen. If one of your audio files is tagged with Various Artists but has a musicbrainz id pointing to Kanye West, then that could potentially explain it.

So I refreshed my music library's metadata and this problem is back.

I've stripped and retagged my entire Various Artists (and Kanye West) collection, and the problem persists.

I've also stripped all unessentail tags from music that's not on musicbrainz in case there was a rogue MusicBrainz ID.

Any idea what else I could try to fix this correctly this time?

Actually removing my various artists music from Emby, and re-adding it (after fixing the tags) solved it. Hopefully for good.
