Yet another "can't connect" thread... but only from one device.

I am currently in the process of moving my media box from Plex to Emby. Currently running the two side by side, which gives me a good testing environment. I regularly connect to the media server from six devices, three in the network (WIn 10 home box, Roku 3 stick, RokuTV) and three outside the network (Win 10 work box, Roku 2XS, Android phone [LG G6]). As of last night, all of the devices are connecting perfectly EXCEPT the Win 10 work box (which is, of course, the one I connect to the most, do a lot of library cleanup on, etc etc ad nauseam).

I have the LG sitting in front of the work machine right now. And as we can see...

...the LG is connecting fine, but...

...the Win10 box is giving the bog-standard Emby Connect error. (This implies, correctly, I am using Emby Connect on the work box, by the by.)

I was too dimwitted to take a screenshot of the dashboard on the media server, but it turns out I can do that from the LG, hallelujah. Ports, too, are bog standard.

Side note: the fact that both the LG and the Roku 2XS (tested last night) are able to connect implies, again correctly, I am able to get all the way through the connection troubleshooter when I'm on the media server with no problems. But just to plug all the possible holes, I gave it a quick look at openportfinder. It is showing that port 8096 is open on the media server.

Given all this, I figured I'd simply try going there manually and see if anything happened. You probably already know the answer to that, but for completeness.

Given all this, my assumption is that the issue isn't with the SERVER, it's with the CLIENT. I've gone through a number of threads about this here and they've helped immensely in getting everything else to connect, but I haven't seen anything that has helpful hints about what you need to do to make sure a specific client is connecting. Is there anything I should know?

A couple of logs are attached from days when I've tried to connect from this machine. They're from last week, unfortunately, before I went premiere (I'm not at my apartment terribly often, so I won't be able to get more recent ones till next week). However, that doesn't seem to have had any effect, so unless someone tells me different I'm going to assume that's a non-variable.

Sorry for the logorrhea, and thanks.

(aaaaaaaand I somehow never got round to posting this. oops. The screenshots are from a few days ago, but all connections that were working when I wrote it were working as of last night, and I just got the error again on the work box.)

Hi, so one of these is a work machine? Is it possible it has restrictions on what you can access?

Hello Luke,

I know this an old thread, but I am having the same issue and it's only recent. I can connect with my phone, my tablet and my XBOX ONE, but not my desktop PC. It used to connect just fine, then one day I started getting the "We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it's running and try again." error message and have not been able to connect since. I run the server on a newer laptop which my desktop can access through the home network to read/write files from and to with no issues. It simply cannot access the Emby server and it is driving me crazy trying to figure out why.

Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi, What app on the PC?  Browser, Theater?

Have you tried using your Server's IP and port directly?

Both theater and the browser cannot connect. And no to the IP and port directly. As I said, it used to work...then one day, nothing. And nothing has changed on either machine that I know of.

We can do a remote session if you like and get this straighten out for you.
Send me a PM and we can arrange to do that or we can work through it here in the forum if you like.

Ditto on the problem: I try to access a friend's server (With his permission, of course), and all I get is the same message over and over and over again...! And as you can see, I'm on Win 10  with a Build-it-Yourself PC tower...Well, if you can tell anything, that is... Help...?

Hi, most likely the address is either not correct, or your friend hasn't verified that their server is setup to receive remote connections. I would suggest having them go through our Connection Troubleshooter:

https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001849007-connectivity

Please have them try the steps listed there and let us know which ones succeed and which ones do not. Thanks !

Thanks, Luke! I'll see if he can check that out...
