Roku Thumbnail Creation - Is This Normal??

I set the Generate Thumbnails task off at 21:44 last night, my CPU went from around 5-10% to 90-100% and has stayed there since. This is 13.5 hours so far and the task is only at 41.9%.

 

As per the title, is this normal?? And if it is, please tell me it only does this once per file and that once the .bif files are in place, they are skipped over next time

This is an extremely intensive process but we do hope to improve it in the future.

Ok thanks @@ebr, does/can this use hardware acceleration at all? My CPU is working overtime whilst it seems my graphics card is sat there twiddling it's metaphorical thumbs...
