skidmarks 199 Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 (edited) So i really want my libraries to be set up before i do the fresh 4.0 install. A thing i really enjoyed with plex was going into music library, selecting an artist, and seeing both the music and music videos from said artist. Pretty sure all they did was look at the artist name in music and music videos and match them automatically. Just by artist name. So from past experiences i know previous versions of emby will not do this with my current folder structure... music videos/artist/artist - song title Read it will do what i want by putting each video in a sub folder under the artist... music videos/artist/song title/song title So i started this transition. Haven't made it out of A yet and think it will take a lifetime (i'm old as dirt) to finish this transition! Is this really the only way to get my videos to show up in the music library? Does 4.0 do it differently than the past versions so i don't have to tackle this? If it is i wonder if any of you smart batch file gurus have a way to simplify this process? I going to go try to create a batch file myself and see if i can figure it out... As always, look forward to your replies! Edited January 14, 2019 by skidmarks
Guest asrequested Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Enable imvdb with caution. It's effed up my music videos. I'm still finding videos that have been arbitrarily renamed. 1
skidmarks 199 Posted January 14, 2019 Author Posted January 14, 2019 (edited) I just installed 4.0.1 to test music videos and another concern i had. I don't want or need my music videos to be scanned and meta added for them (artist and title is all i need and well that's how they are named). So if you are saying its messing up your library i am going to stay away from it! Everything is labeled for my needs. To answer my original post,,, From the test folders i used i have CONFIRMED that i can see both music and music videos like i want using the subfolder file structure! music videos/artist name/song name/song name BUT it appears like it only will work that way with imvdb installed (and it will only add the files that imvdb recognizes). i am going to erase the 4 hours of renaming i did (to get half way thru the letter A) and just use the standard music video library. Thanks guys! Edited January 14, 2019 by skidmarks
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 @@Luke the imvdb plugin does not change any video names etc for me and adds a small amount of metadata - if the video filename matches exactly the name on imvdb - this is a limitation of imvdb the music videos/artist name/song name/song name works fine with or without imvdb loaded
skidmarks 199 Posted January 15, 2019 Author Posted January 15, 2019 (edited) I have just fixed my extras and loading my full movie library as i type this... I did a test with two music and corresponding music video folders that i did change the structure. Only half of them showed up in the music section. When i uninstalled imvdb none of them showed up? So i assumed that meant imvdb needed to be installed. Anyway, I went ahead and uninstalled imvdb and bulk renamed my files (one folder at a time) back to: music videos/artist name/artist name - song title I am going to roll with this for now, seeing my music videos in that section only. I am not going to mention how many videos i have, but this is an impossible task to restructure and verify exact imvdb file names. I would like to suggest matching artist names in music libraries with artist names in music video libraries and if there is an exact match shortcut the matching music videos in said artist over to the music section for that artist. If music/artist = music video/artist Create a shortcut from the music videos to the music artist! This would be absolutely awesome and wouldn't require a plugin to do. I bet a LOT of users would be thrilled with this solution! Thanks guys... Edited January 15, 2019 by skidmarks
