Is It Possible Question About Live Streaming ...

I can't watch football at my cottage!

DirecTV Now is avaiable at my cottage location but doesn't supply any "local stations."  I checked other streamimg cable suppliers but none carry local stations at the cottage location.

I do get DirecTV Now at home and do get "local stations" (which have the local football team).

Is it possible for me to set up Emby on a pc at my house (+antenna +digital tuner) and then "live stream" live football games from home to my cottage Roku Smart TV 250 miles away?

If so, how is the quality? Will there be buffering?

Thanks in advance from this newbie.

Yes.  How well it works will depend on the internet connection speed at both ends (upload speed at server and download speed at cottage).

One caveat: this assumes you have supported access to that stream from the server location.  IOW - if you need DirecTV access then this may not be possible.

My up speed is 9mb at home and my down speed is 13mb at the cottage.  Yes, I get the "local stations" via DirecTV Now at home.

"IOW - if you need DirecTV access then this may not be possible". Not sure what you mean by this (newbie - sorry!).

DirecTV is a closed system.  They don't allow 3rd party apps to access their streams.  So, if the only way you have to get these stream is via their app, this probably won't work for you.

You would need a compatible Live TV tuner or IPTV stream.

See if I have this right ....  DirecTV Now would be closed system so not possible.  But, I could use a regular antenna (+ tv tuner) to pick up the game at home and live stream via Emby to the cottage.  Is this correct??

I should have mentiond: I can't use any local stations via antenna at the cottage (I would need an 80 foot tower and still be limited to only a couple stations.  The games aren't always on the same channel!)

Thanks for your help so far.  :)

Yes, that would be correct but, with your internet speeds I would set an in-app bitrate limit at around 2Mb/s to get smooth playback (you can use trial and error to find the best option).

THANK YOU SO MUCH!  Awesome that this is possible.  I see no other way I could watch the local team.  NFL Ticket does a "blackout" of local games so that was useless too. Nothing seemed to work.  Only "end-around" I've found.  I'll be setting this all up soon and I'm sure I'll have more questions then. (I currently am useing Plex locally to just play media. Good bye Plex!)

From the info you have given you should be fine. I do exactly the same between the UK and Spain which is 1500 miles.

Good luck!

Come back and tell us how itvworks out.
