Hey,

I have tried to setup emby to 'read' my external hdd with directories and sub-directories.

Below is my 'ls -l' readout for the root external hdd:

drwxr-xr-x 64 dave dave 4096 Jan 11 15:22 My_Films
drwxrwxrwx 54 dave dave 4096 Jan 11 14:30 My_TV
drwxrwxrwx 3 dave dave 4096 Nov 20 11:31 Webms

Any help would be great as I would like to see this working.

Thanks.

Hi, where exactly are you having a problem?

Hi, on the "Add media libraries" setup page.

For some reason emby cannot find the hdd.

Addition: I am using Arch Linux 64 bit.

But you have to mount the "root" eternal HD into some directory, such as /mnt or whatever. What are the permissions for that directory, and any other parent directory? What is the full path to the directory you showed above?

Hi, the mount point and full path is:

/run/media/dave/Backup

Permissions are:

[dave@antergos Backup]$ ls -l
total 24
drwxrwxrwx 2 dave autologin 4096 Jul 5 2018 APKs
drwxrwxrwx 5 dave autologin 4096 Dec 12 18:39 'Arch Linux'
-rw-r--r-- 1 dave dave 102 Dec 6 18:48 bitwarden
-rwxrwxrwx 1 dave autologin 44 Jul 9 2018 maltego
drwxrwxrwx 6 dave dave 4096 Jan 11 17:34 My_Media
drwxrwxrwx 3 dave autologin 4096 Dec 13 13:46 RAR
[dave@antergos Backup]$

Thanks.

And what path is My_TV in? Underneath My_Media?

When adding the new media library, under folder, you are putting what exactly?

Yes and My_Films is also. Full path to My_Videos on external HDD:

/run/media/dave/Backup/My_Media/My_Videos

And the two subsequent folders I would like to add to emby are:

/run/media/dave/Backup/My_Media/My_Videos/My_Films
/run/media/dave/Backup/My_Media/My_Videos/My_TV

When adding the new media library, under folder, you are putting what exactly?

This:

/run/media/dave/Backup/My_Media/My_Videos/My_Films
/run/media/dave/Backup/My_Media/My_Videos/My_TV

But both are not picked up by emby.

Thanks.

To see where it's failing, in the "folder" field under add media library, simply put a / and hit the search icon to the right. Now, try and navigate folder level by level to where you want. Where does it stop, or does it work?

Okay, so it fails at the following:

/run/media/dave

Ok, so, in a terminal window, cd to /run/media and post ls -l results. Assuming you can't get anything under dave.

Okay here it is:

[dave@antergos media]$ ls -l
total 0
drwxr-x---+ 3 root root 60 Jan 12 06:31 dave
drwxr-x---+ 3 root root 60 Jan 12 05:00 root
[dave@antergos media]$

And under "/run/media/dave":

[dave@antergos dave]$ ls -l
total 4
drwxrwxrwx 7 dave dave 4096 Jan 11 17:34 Backup
[dave@antergos dave]$

So, the emby user has no permissions to get past dave since it's owned by root, and the group is root. You need to chmod 775 dave.

Okay, I got this problem sorted.

I simply had to change the mount point using the "Disks" program in the main menu (See pics).

Everything works great now!
