Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 I would like the number on the upper right of collections to show the total number of movies contained regardless of watched status. Or I would like no indication at all of watched/unwatched for movies. I understand there is value for some, even most, in marking movies watched but, for me, there is no value in such except for TV series where it is used to keep track of where you are in a series. I mostly know what I have or have not watched and I do not need help in doing so and it would be good for me to see the total number of movies in each collection I have. Clearly there are some numbers on both sides so it would be good to make watched/unwatched marking a user choice.
Luke 42083 Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 To eliminate this confusion, beginning in 4.0 there won't be a number on collections anymore.

That seems a bit like the old saying of "throwing out the baby with the bathwater." I think that number should be there and show the total movies in the collection. However I am just one person and I guess you used a much larger sample to arrive at the decision that no info is preferable to just a counter. 1
Happy2Play 9783 Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 The issue is when you look at TV Content it shows unwatched count, then you change to Movies/Collections and this number is just a item count within that Collection not unwatched count. There could never be a unified meaning to the number that appears/appeared on the item cover.
Luke 42083 Posted January 10, 2019 Posted January 10, 2019 The problem is that out of the box, neither number is a great choice. If we show unplayed count, then we are consistent but to many people it feels random, where you constantly have to remind yourself what the number means. If we show total count, then we're inconsistent with the rest of the system, and some will not like that either.

So, make it a user choice on a per library basis and default it to "off" so you do not confuse many people. I, for one, would not be confused if the number meant different things for different libraries. Further it does not seem, to me, that collections make much sense for TV but I guess that others feel differently. Again make it a user choice. On/Off/unwatched/total. 1
