cdikland 1 Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 I have almost moved all video streaming from Plex to Emby and am very close to shutting the former down. Almost.... Still a few issues to iron out with Emby before I decimate Plex. So my questions is, can the PLEX libary and Emby Library be one of the same? I havent added anything new to Plex library for some time now and in the unlikely event I need to flip from Emby to Plex to watch a video or two I dont want to first have to move files from the Emby library into Plex. Thanks in Advance.
Luke 42080 Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Hi, it's hard to say for sure, but I would imagine almost the same.
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 With very very few exceptions Plex and Emby can point to the same locations. I would not use any of "Save in same location as media files" in Emby should you choose to do that but there is no reason in should not work just fine.
CBers 7451 Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 I have my Emby libraries also in Plex and the co-exist without any issues for me. Metadata/images are stored in the libraries.
Sammy 790 Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 The only issue I have encountered is the Emby Theme Video plugin creates a thumbnail video for every movie in my library which show up in the Plex library as separate entries. I quit Plex so it doesn't matter much but why do you want to keep it around? Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk
Perplexed 25 Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 I run both side by side with the exact same content (my media is on Google drive, in fact). I store all Emby's metadata within the libraries, no issues whatsoever. Plex continues to work as usual even with the extra files, and Emby works flawlessly as well.
unhooked 17 Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 (edited) Yeah, my files are all in the same places. The parts that make them "libraries" though are stored in separate databases except for the occasion where you let emby store metadata in your storage space but that doesn't seem to effect plex at all, but there are plugins for that to make plex read .nfo files too. I'm still running both on my shield just because there are still issues with smb writes on that platform for now and having a dvr that only burns 5 watts of power is nice on the pocketbook. StewieGreen 160 Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 I'm the same as everyone else here, I ran plex and emby side by side for over a year pointing to the same folders with no issues.
lklein 2 Posted August 28, 2021 Posted August 28, 2021 (edited) I am using Emby but was thinking about using Plex to skip commercials. If I have them both pointing to the same library would Plex automatically take the commercials out so that I can watch them with Emby without commercials? I know the skip button wouldn't be in Emby so would have to use the destructive commercial option. Thanks for any feedback or ideas on this. I will probably try this soon. Carlo 4561 Posted August 28, 2021 Posted August 28, 2021 That is not going to help you in Emby in any way.

Happy2Play 9782 Posted August 28, 2021 Posted August 28, 2021 Yes as Emby will see the file change and reprocess it via RTM or library scan. Now if the file is not changing then that is another story.
