phuckstepp 4 Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 I've just installed Emby on my Ubuntu 18.04 server (currently using Plex as primary media server) and I have noticed that most of my music is not coming up in my Music library (nothing missing in Plex). I checked the naming convention and everything is correct: Music/ Ruelle/ Carry You/ - this album/single shows Emerge/ - missing Madness/ - missing And a load of others. Most of my music has been purchased from Amazon and I've checked all the tags. I'm only using the free Emby but I'm assuming there's no limits on files in a library. I've tried rescanning all the metadata and I've even enabled folders view and the missing folders still do not show up. Any help would be appreciated.
Luke 42078 Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Hi, welcome. Can you please show us the folder contents of a missing one? Thanks.
phuckstepp 4 Posted January 1, 2019 Author Posted January 1, 2019 Attached is an image showing my Music\Ruelle\ folder in which only the top most 'Carry You' appears in Emby. I have also attached (figure-2) a grab of inside the Emerge album folder.
phuckstepp 4 Posted January 1, 2019 Author Posted January 1, 2019 Most recent non beta, only downloaded and installed a few days ago.
Luke 42078 Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Are you able to find any of the missing titles using the search function?
phuckstepp 4 Posted January 2, 2019 Author Posted January 2, 2019 Yes. If I search for Emerge two tracks are displayed. I checked the metadata that Emby has for those tracks and they have the correct data. Artist: Ruelle, Album: Emerge. But they do not display under the normal listings. This morning I have noticed that some of the artists now have images assigned. So, perhaps it is just taking a very long time for Emby to process everything? I have about 3000 tracks and Emby has been up and running since yesterday morning (although my server automatically shuts down at 23:00 and starts up again at 06:00.
phuckstepp 4 Posted January 4, 2019 Author Posted January 4, 2019 (edited) I left it alone a day or so to see if it would catch up and add in the missing albums but no such luck. So, I checked and updated all the permissions of the files on my USB hard drive to 0777 as the one album that was showing for Ruelle had it set as 0777. Next, I reapplied all the ID3v2.3 tags ensuring that all the artist and album artist tags were set to Ruelle. Rescanned the meta data replacing all data. I removed and re-added the music library. And still it refuses to see some albums in my music folder. Edited January 4, 2019 by phuckstepp
phuckstepp 4 Posted January 4, 2019 Author Posted January 4, 2019 (edited) Quick update: After doing the full rescan I discovered that the one album that is showing for Ruelle - Carry You was showing 128 minutes (despite only being 1 track). I went into the album in Emby and it is listing all the tracks from every album/single by Ruelle. It's as if it is ignoring the album tag in the MP3 files. If I edit the meta data for the files they do show the correct Album though. It's also doing this for a few other artists as well where 1 of the listed albums is showing content from multiple albums within it. Edited January 4, 2019 by phuckstepp
phuckstepp 4 Posted January 4, 2019 Author Posted January 4, 2019 SOLVED. So I searched through some related forum posts and then double checked my music folders and discovered that if you have loose music files in an artist folder along with album folders Emby will ignore all the album information and display all tracks in a single album based on the loose tracks. So For Ruelle: /Ruelle /Emerge /This is the Hunt loose file.mp3 Messes everything up. After I reorganised the offending Artists so there is just album folders within each Artist and rescanned the library everything is displaying. I presume Plex relies entirely on the file tags to compile the libraries, whereas Emby doesn't.
Luke 42078 Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 That's correct. We plan to become fully tag driven, but at present we do require album folders. Thanks.
