shield TV Playback question

Just installed emby on Shield TV, replacing my HTPC..  Everything looks good so far. My question is:

 

What is the difference between "direct streaming" and "direct Play" when selecting movies ?

Direct stream is when the stream is going through server. It usually happens because either the container or the audio has to be altered in some way. Direct play means that the server isn't involved and is being played directly from the source. If you look in the stats, it'll tell you what's happening.

Could you tell me what you mean by "look in the stats" ?

In the UI when playing something, you'll see a gear. Click on that and you see an option 'stats for nerds'. Select that and you'll see the information you're looking for.
