Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 Can another computer access Emby via the localip:8096? The issues is Emby is not displaying your localip via the dashboard so you would have to check the machine itself.
RobWayBro 28 Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 There is this also: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Connectivity And, back to basics, is the firewall on the Emby server turned on? Is it blocking the port? If it is, as a test I would turn off the firewall and attempt to connect. You can then turn it back on and add an exception for the port(s).

Even though I made the rule for the Windows firewall, disabling Avast allowed me to connect to the local static IP address and server! Would this indicate that something in Avast needs to be changed?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 (edited) Yep secondary firewalls require manual intervention. Emby automatically applies rules to Windows firewall. So it is a matter of whether Avast updates its firewall when these changes are made. Looks like no. Edited December 27, 2018 by Happy2Play
Luke 42077 Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 Correct. We don't do anything to automatically setup rules in avast.

Whizard 0 Posted December 28, 2018 Author Posted December 28, 2018 Is it blocking the app? I don't know how to check that, but it is allowing the server . . . ?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Not much of a firewall guy but I would compare the firewall rule in Windows to the rule in Avast. Are you able to connect to Emby from other local clients with the rule you have?

I can connect to the server via other computers, but still not through the roku app. All of my testing is happening while Avast is asleep. I figure I can pester them directly about writting a good rule once I know I can get the Roku up. Still only have a remote access on my dashboard, nothing local.

Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 (edited) @@Whizard You should also be able to bind your machines ip to Emby on Dashboard-Advanced-"Bind to local network address" enter the machines static ip address. See note Optional. Override the local IP address to bind the http server to. If left empty, the server will bind to all availabile addresses. Changing this value requires restarting Emby Server. I changed that, restarted, and still it just times out. Do you know why I don't show any local connection? All I have is the Remote. Seems like it should have a local connection . . . ?
Guest asrequested Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 I don't know how to check that, but it is allowing the server . . . ? Take a look at this. Look for existing app rules. Is there anything relating to emby in there? https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlname=Allow-application-in-AVG-Firewall

Happy2Play 9780 Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 If other local clients can connect there currently shouldn't be a firewall issue. I have never experience LAN IP detection not working. When you bound the LAN IP does it appear on the dashboard? The Roku is on the same network correct?

The Roku is on the same network, and no, the only thing that shows up on my dashboard is the "Remote (WAN) access:" , which shows my public address. I've attached. Also, I have to shut down tonight and hope I can make time to re-address tomorrow. Thanks for all the help so far!
