liam239 0 Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 (edited) Hi, Emby has worked for a month without problems. Recently when I start a series my CPU go's high most of the time >95%. I have already changed transcoding thread to 2 where is stays around the 85-100%. I had changed it to 1. Then stays the CPU around 45% but it is freezing a lot more. This is the process that causes the high CPU. %CPU %MEM COMMAND 317.6 4.3 ffmpeg LOG: ffmpeg-transcode-90314877-5352-4565-b722-43988df33e26.txt ffmpeg-transcode-52a8036b-5e46-4fbd-9fa9-6bc790aebd57.txt - Works perfect EDIT: it is only when a file needs ffmpeg the log with at the end ..57 is one that works perfect (CPU stays at +/- 4%). I hope I/we find a solution. Already Thanks, Liam Edited December 27, 2018 by liam239
Luke 42079 Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 Hi, this is the nature of transcoding. It will use significant CPU. You are aware of that, right? The upcoming 3.6 release will add a throttle feature which will help reduce it. Thanks. 1
liam239 0 Posted December 27, 2018 Author Posted December 27, 2018 Hi, I'm not so technical in transcoding kind of stuff . But is it normal that it is not with every video? And it has the same extension. Thanks for the fast response.
Luke 42079 Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 Yes it can vary depending in the media format. Sometimes we don't need transcoding at all if the Emby app you're playing from supports the format natively. And sometimes the type of transcoding will vary, along with the cost of it.

RazeLighter777 1 Posted December 29, 2018 Posted December 29, 2018 (edited) You could try hardware acceleration (EG GPU) , if you have that as a resource. Edited December 29, 2018 by RazeLighter777 1
liam239 0 Posted January 4, 2019 Author Posted January 4, 2019 Thanks all for the info. it where HVEC files that peaks the CPU (in transcoding). So if I convert it first or something than it works fine.
Luke 42079 Posted January 4, 2019 Posted January 4, 2019 Our media convert feature can help automate this process.
