ben61694 2 Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 I'm running my media on an odroid c2 so I prefer not to transcode. I have anime subtitles in .ass format so that it can translate certain things on the screen. If I convert to .srt, I would lose the positioning of the text and it also doesn't convert properly. Is there any other widely supported format that will mimick the subs? Also, if I do transcode, I assume that transcoding subtitles takes the same processing power as transcoding an incompatible video format? Or do you think I can just get away with transcoding the subs?
Luke 42077 Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 Hi, you can't really convert .ass to text and still keep the custom styling. It's a trade-off that only you can decide. In other words, do you want plain text and maximum performance, or do you want all of the styles along with the possibility of transcoding? There is also nothing wrong with having both subtitles so that you can use different formats depending on the app you're playing from. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks !
