Can't delete video playlist

Recommended Posts

Posted

I created a playlist that I was using to play random cartoons for my kids. I only wanted it to play already watched content (just for background noise). Now that I realize that Emby can't filter playlists like that I would like to get rid of it but I see no option to delete it like already searched for options suggest.

At no level clicking on the 3 dots is "delete" present. I even went into the hidden Emby server folders and did find a playlist file with the same name as my created playlist so I deleted that but the playlist remains even after a restart of the server.

Any help?

Screenshot attached as well.

Hi, make sure the emby user has delete permissions.

I am the only user on this system @@Luke and I have full access rights in the Emby user setup section

I had this happen once (delete option just disappeared for affected playlists) and it had to be removed from the database as deleting it via the playlists folder did not work.

I bet if you created a new playlist you would have a delete option.  But if you are having the same issue I ran into it will probably be a database issue.

I saw the post with the topic "missing playlist" 2 days ago, and I have a similar problem.

After a reinstallation of emby I tried to restore my backuped playlists, but I had to adjust them because the root-path of the music library changed. But Emby had problems recognising the playlists, they were listed, but empty. After some playing around (adding a sample track via emby, than adding manually the old playlist items) I got 3 of them working.

Then I tried to simplify the restoring and converted the old playlists in m3u files and put these in the music library (with the same name from the old ones).

After that I deleted all the playlist items in /programdata/data/playlists (because the right-click menu in emby didn't allow that) but emby still showed them (in the playlist library and in the dialogue for adding items to a playlist).

Then I changed the names of these "ghost-playlists" with the metadata editor, and tried to use the successfully imported m3u playlists. But once I added a track to them, they disappeared.

So now I have these ghost playlists which I am not able to delete (where are these saved???) and no working m3u playlists

Hi, did you try running a library scan? These are just like any other kind of media. If you delete the files you'll need to run a scan to make them go away.

Please let us know if this helps.

Can you describe the issue with the m3u playlists?

I also noticed the ghost playlist that amarok is talking about, When I reported to you the other playlist problem, I did test playlists, then I deleted them, they don't show on the playlist section but they do in the dropdown menu when you are adding a song to a playlist, I rescan the library, I restarted emby, restarted the nas and those playlists still show.

Here is an image of a playlist already deleted: (the deleted playlists were: Test.(M3U), test (emby format), aben whatch and delete (Emby format), Delmys list (emby format), Delmys watch and delete (emby format)

Here in the picture you can still see the deleted playlists in the drop down menu.

@@abescalamis thats exactly the problem I have with these ghost playlists! I still haven't figured out a way to get rid of them (also scanned libraries again, restarted emby, restarted whole server) :(

@@Luke I tried the m3u files as a workaround. The problem with these playlists is that once successfully imported, they show up as expected, but when I try to add songs to them via the context menu in emby, the imported m3u playlists don't show up anymore. Neither at the playlists library nor at the "add to playlist" contect menu when trying to add further tracks (the add to playlist function is working and I can see the m3u playlist under the right name, but the playlists still won't show up in the library section and emby is deleting the previous content of this playlist everytime I add something (see post below)). When I look at the m3u files with notepad, i can see emby is formatting the file and I can see the first track emby had added, but the playlist isn't showing in emby anymore.

every help is appreciated :)

I'm not sure, but I think that the problem that you are having with M3U playlist not showing the song that you added is related to this:

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/72898-m3u-playlist-issue/

The issue is when the song that you added has a special character on the Name, can you please tell me the name of the songs that you are adding just to confirm that we are talking of the same issue?

@@abescalamis hm no, I tested it with only english songs, it seems that this is not the problem. But while testing I recognised, that when I add songs now, the old tracks in the playlists are deleted and only the newly added song is now in the playlist. Very weird

What is interesting maybe is, that the music library is located at a network address (windows share). So the path written to the m3u file are network adresses.

Here is the content of one of my playlists:

#EXTM3U
#EXTALB:Into The Badlands (Music From The AMC Original Series)

#EXTINF:125,The Greatest Clipper In The Badlands

For testing would you mind removing the "(Music From The AMC Original Series)" from the song name re-scan your library and see if you can add it to the M3U.

I'm saying the above because I have a song name "I'm an albatraoz" and if I change I'm for Im, it does add it.

I have tried it with different tracks from Interstellar. This is the content of the m3u file in the end:

#EXTM3U
#EXTALB:Interstellar
#EXTART:Hans Zimmer
#EXTINF:412,Stay
file:\\xyz-root\Musik\Hans Zimmer\2014 Interstellar\05 Stay.mp3

there are no special characters used, only 1-9 and a-z

but the problem as mentioned in post #6 is still the same

Emby is failing to find the path of where you music is saved.

That is why your songs disappear, and the ones you add don't show.

You should post a log and Luke can see why Emby doesn't recognize you music path for m3u

Posted

@@abescalamis I don't know for sure, but emby can play these files just fine, so emby should find the path. Also this does not explain, why the old content from the m3u playlist is deleted before adding the new tracks.

@@Luke here is the part from the log, where I add tracks to the playlist (playlist has the name "4"), should be 12:53:31-12:53:38

What I mean is that there is a problem with M3U playlist, and we will have to wait for Luke's response. Most likely it will get fix in the next server release. Hopefully.

How did you delete the playlists? If you just deleted the files then you will need to run a library scan so that Emby recognizes they have been deleted.

As I already mentioned in the same post, the library has been scanned, rescanned, I restarted Emby even and the NAS, some of those playlists were deleted weeks ago, the ghost playlist issue has been present since 4.0 the same as the other issue that I already mentioned to you on another post.

After the playlists had been deleted they only show in the drop-down selection menu.

I would try this without the

file:

prefix. This way it will exactly match the paths to the media in the emby database.

yay, this works! But this has to be fixed in Emby, because when I add a track to this playlist, emby automatically formats and adds the file: prefix to it again. And then the playlist vanishes again.

But, now emby is not deleting the old content of the playlist (at least when you first delete manually the file: prefix :)

I have the same problems: 1) the playlists showing after deleting 2) when I add songs to the m3u playlist some get added and some don't.

When I open the M3U playlists with a text editor, I see that emby tried to add the entry to the M3U but songs but don't show in emby, I rescan the library many times.

Is this something I should fix or something that the devs have to fix?

Hi, I'm a newbie with Emby so excuse me if I missed something obvious but I can't see a way to delete a Playlist.  I tried clicking on the Playlist ellipsis ...  but these are the only options I get.

Under my User profile I have all permissions checked except for "Disable this User" and "Hide this user from login screens on the local network"
