ben61694 2 Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 I had a 1080p x264 FLAC file which I used Sickbeard MP4 automator to convert (which I've done before with other videos and it worked fine and made them playable). However, when I tried this file, it will transcode. Opening the file and checking the codecs in VLC Media Player gives me this. Any idea why it's transcoding? I'm casting to a Chromecast.
mastrmind11 722 Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 check the server transcode logs, or the Emby dashboard, or the stats-for-nerds on screen when it's happening.
Luke 42078 Posted December 23, 2018 Posted December 23, 2018 The stats for nerds feature inside the video player can tell you the transcoding reason, as can the server dashboard. 1
ben61694 2 Posted December 23, 2018 Author Posted December 23, 2018 It says Reason for transcoding: Video profile not supported. What do I need to do to fix it? I attached log files if that helps. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-5d43a470-359c-4b5c-8054-5af62dcb1ffc_1.txt
Luke 42078 Posted December 24, 2018 Posted December 24, 2018 There's nothing to fix because everything is working as expected. The device you're playing from does not support h264 high 10 profile and that's why the server is transcoding. Does this answer your question? If you want to avoid transcoding you could pre-convert the media into more streaming friendly formats. We have a conversion feature that can help with that. You can learn more about that here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/blog/1/entry-423-emby-server-34-released/
ben61694 2 Posted December 24, 2018 Author Posted December 24, 2018 Ah. So I'm guessing I just need to change the video profile to "high" instead of high 10 and it should fix it. The reason I ask is cause I'm running it on a low power device so it can't handle the transcoding. That's why I ran it through sickbeards to begin with but apparently the default settings let it be high 10.
