Need a better way to organize Live TV Channels

Hi Guys,

 

Great work so far on integrating Live TV into MB3!  Light years away from your competitors!

 

However, we do need a better way of sorting or searching TV channels.  I have 500 channels of cable TV...on the mobile browser, going thru 20 channels at a time is a travesty.  

 

Please let me either group my channels or search channels by number...or there has got to be a better way than the current implementation.

Agree.  If there was a way to put in the channel number, that would be great.  My HD channels don't start until around channel 600, so if we could put in the channel number to skip there it would be less tedious.  Not sure if possible or how hard it would be to add.

I think that one thing that would really help is the ability to set favorite channels. It would at least go a long ways to narrowing things down for the most used channels.

just to add in my "workaround", although i do agree some more work in this area would be welcome, when the devs can get to it.....

 

 

... im using the SWMC plugin with my ceton cc tuner,... in my wmc setup for live tv i unchecked the hundreds of channels i dont pay for/care about/etc.. in my case i didnt want/need any SD channels other than a couple of the music ones... didnt need banks of pay channels/or sports banks i dont get etc... this was some minutes of work on the WMC side of things.. manually unchecking LOTS of channels.. but here's the payoff i saw

 

-wmc guide is shorter/simpler/what i chose it to be

-mb live tv task is quicker to refresh..

-mb browsing is now only showing those channels as well.. i went in my personal case from more than 700 channels that the plugin originally saw (and wmc had).. down to just over 200...

 

 

dont forget you can also set that 20 option in the web client to show other choices.. i have mine on 50 which is a good balance for my listings

 

 

so while i admit that i too would like a channel entry or search eventually... favorite channels most especially..  im "ok" for now in my usage after doing the above

I agree the guide could be better.

 

My suggestion is instead of using the guide - click on the Channels tab.  This loads MUCH faster and is much more easily scrollable if you know the channel you want.  This mostly solved my problem.

I did the same thing. Remove all channels you don't want or care about and it makes it a reasonable number. I went from 500 channels down to 110. At 50 per page easier to use. I have been playing around with the XBMC serverWMC connection and it would be wonderful to get to that level one day maybe on the MBT. They pull all the channels and guide into some local database and you can scroll the channels from there. I like what we have so far but hoping for the future.
