Live TV - Up Next

I only realised yesterday, that the "On Now" section of Live TV is like a taunt - "here are a load of programs that you are missing."  It seems to be very rare that I happen upon a program which is just starting.  What would be really useful, would be a section that would display what's on next.  What would make it even more useful, would be if you could set a reminder message 'n' minutes before the program starts.  Obviously it would work best, if that message appeared on the client app, if the person is logged on.

already requested. What makes it worse is all the other rows are displaying shows that are on now too

Oh.  I did search first; however, it's not so easy to find.

The other rows include items that are on now but they also show programs that are starting in the near future.   Isn't this exactly what you are asking for?

As far as a timer/notification is concerned, why not just set it up to record?

no, the other rows should not show on now as it’s a duplicate of the on now row. Apart from the lack of paging this is why these screens are deficient. Over half of the listings in the Shows sub screen are on now. When the list is limited to 300 items that’s why I barely get past the first few letters of the alphabet for shows that are in the future

Regardless “on now” shouldn’t show programs that are more than halfway through

So, if the last quarter of your favorite sports team is on, you don't even want to know about it?

no. I’d be watching it

I think that part of the problem is that many of these IPTV providers have so many channels; far more than most cable or satellite providers.  You have planned, I understand, to add channel grouping, which will help a lot, especially in the ability to not see any of the VOD offerings as 'channels'.

ebr mentions the last quarter of a sports game.  The option that I am suggesting, would allow you to record a film on another channel, while you watch the rest of the game, OR if you are losing badly, switch to the film instead.  Theoretically, you could even aim towards a system that lets you record and pause the film, and start watching it when the game has finished.  In my opinion, this would put Emby up there with Tivo, for functionality (even though, in MANY other ways, it far surpasses Tivo).

thinking about this a bit more. yes, what you are suggesting is plausible, but my response would be, given the number of channels people tend to have what is the likelihood that this even appears on the live tv front screen under suggestions?

however, it would, if that channel had been selected as a favourite. So how about:

programs that are more than halfway through should not be displayed under either the on now row or the respective program type row on the suggestions screen unless that channel has been selected as a favourite.

personally, as stated before i would still say that in progress programs should ONLY be displayed in the on now row to prevent duplication and excess of programs over available places to display them

You could maybe also consider the duration of the program in question.  For example, if it's a 20 or 30 minute program, then missing the first 10 minutes is really significant, while missing the first hour of some 4 hour long sport programs probably only misses the pre-match drivel.

It MIGHT be more sensible to come back to some improvements on the Live TV part of emby, AFTER the import improvements and channel grouping are introduced, as hopefully, we will be able to set certain channels or channel groups as less important than others.  This would then hopefully make it easier for those things to filter down to other functionality.
