Emby Server installed on Cloud hosted VM

Hi,

I am just getting started with Emby and wish to install it on a cloud VM and then use the Emby app as a client on my smart TV.

I have just launched a linux VM (1 vCPU, 0.6GB RAM) on Google Cloud Platform and I used the following commands to pull down the file and launch it

wget "https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases/download/3.5.3.0/emby-server-deb_3.5.3.0_amd64.deb"

sudo dpkg -i emby-server-deb_3.5.3.0_amd64.deb

I think I've successfully installed the server but I am unsure how to log into the server in the cloud to configure it. Does anyone have any pointers as to how I can log into the server I just created??

Hi, am new round here as well.

But I have emby set up on my dedicated server .

I would think you should be able to get to your install by pointing your browser to the ip address of the VM and specifying the port

e.g: http://ipadress:8096

replace ipaddress with the ip of your VM

which I think is the default port

Thanks Blim, but I can't reach the external IP address using either HTTP or HTTPS as you mentioned above although I can ping the external IP address from my laptop.

I've checked the status of Emby and it appears to be running but I am still having no joy in accessing the server remotely.

That suggests there could be a firewall blocking the connection.

If i remember correctly, (I used google cloud a while ago) there are not many ports open by default. So you will need to check the settings in google cloud and allow or create a rule for that port.

if you use http://www.canyouseeme.org/

with your VM ip and port 8096

does that show that success? I guess not

Hi, I currently have the same problem, but on a ubuntu machine, I have correctly configured the firewall, but I am still able to connect remotely,

I attach a print on my google firewall settings.
