Feature/PlugIn Request: Screensaver Trivia Slides

Recommended Posts

Posted

Sorry, I really didn't know how to better title this request. I've been setting up MB Intros and came across a few different people that create HD or 720p slides that can act as pictures for a screensaver (see: http://www.cinemavision.org/index.php/cinema-slides/classic). Easy enough to do already. However, they have expanded and using a plugin in XBMC you can have ordered slides as well as having it become random, producing random trivia during the screensaver/slideshow. For example: Question1_q.jpg, Question1_c.jpg, Question1_a.jpg, followed by Question7_q.jpg, etc.. obviously they follow an order q(uestion), c(lue), a(nswer) or just q and a. And they can be played randomly to avoid repition of the same questions over and over. They've created tons of slides that get into specific or broad trivia and slides that just present quotes/taglines or movie info on them. I think this would be a great feature to implement as a screensaver or a function to even run as part of MB Intros if desired. I'd love to be able to have this running on MediaBrowser.

That's clever.  Like sitting in the Theater waiting for the movie to start. :)

Giving this a bump in hopes that it will be seen by someone with some coding experience. I feel like it would be easy to write a plugin to handle this, but it's been far too long since I've coded anything. Happy to help with the logic though.

I think it's a very neat idea, and I've had the idea of building a trivia api for the developers to do things like this with. it's just hard to move it up the priority list with the other things going on.

If someone takes on the development of a MediaBrowser plugin, we're happy to help that developer get in touch with the person behind the Cinema Experience Script for XBMC. Knowing the process that the XBMC script uses might help to make the content we offer plug and play for MediaBrowser.

Cinema Experience also does a ton more than just Trivia, so if anyone is interested in a feature discussion - we're happy to help with that too.

Well, here we are! So the Kodi plugin we've written to replace Cinema Experience is in beta at the moment. I wanted to pop in and say that it's all API driven, and if the Emby Team is interested in using those APIs to run any kind of preshow, they're more than welcome to do so.

Very interested just difficult to get it to the top of the priority list

No worries, sir. As soon as I have documentation for the API, I'll shoot it your way. One of our requirements was that it be agnostic and easy to tie into for Emby. In theory, that will make it pretty quick and easy to code into Emby, so your effort should be relatively minimal if we did it right. :) You're also welcome to incorporate our entire add-on as a dependency if you don't want to redesign the interface. Even bigger things are coming, believe it or not.

I wish it were that easy but its' the UI for each of the apps that is the delicate part, and they all have to be done one at a time with special considerations for each of them.

If you had a bunch of JPEG files with the trivia on them, you could use a ffmpeg commandline to stick them I to a video container and creat intros easily.

The most time consuming g would be typing out the trivia questions into JPEG.

Edit: if there was a place online to scrape the trivia questions, then it would be easy to build jpegs in .net and then send them to a command line in ffmpeg, then place them into the intro folder in emby.

You could technically make an entire library in emby which are trivia movies and just play the playlist.

Yeah this is possible! Where do we get the trivia questions online? Anyone??

Alright, everyone. It's been a long road, but the CinemaVision Kodi add-on is ready. I've PMed Luke to ask if he and the team have any interest in integrating it (and it's features) into Emby. We've got a growing library of JPG trivia, video bumpers and all kinds of other things that are built to work with the add-on. If that's something any of you are interested in, now would be the time to speak up! If you all want a full break-down of what CinemaVision can do, let us know.

I'm still very much interested, just have to first satisfy the emby theater, roku, and apple TV crowds with what they're waiting for:)

Could this also possibly be used to satisfy those wanting more from embys current implementation of cinema mode

Well just hit me up when you guys are ready and we'll figure out a good way to integrate!

Depending on how the Emby team wants to integrate, absolutely. I would imagine that the CinemaVision integration in Emby would have an identical feature set to the Kodi add-on. Here are a few of the key features:

  • You have complete power over every aspect of your preshow sequence, before and after the feature presentation
  • You can save sequences and move them to other installs, or other software with CinemaVision integration when we eventually get to that point
  • You can skip around from module to module in your sequence
  • You can trigger your JSON/RESTful API home automation solution directly from the sequence at a specific point (e.g. Lights down for the feature presentation), or on an action (e.g. Pause)
  • You can add a specific number of trailers from your local library, or from a growing list of streaming sources on the internet (e.g. iTunes, StereoscopyNews)
  • You can add still image trivia files, and support for video trivia files is in the works - all with music playing in the background from a local directory or a streaming source
    • Still image trivia has multiple possible transitions
    • Music will fade when the slideshow is finished
    • Small-skip (+1 slide), Big-skip (+3 slide sets), forward or backwards through trivia
  • You can add Video Bumpers either from local sources, or from streaming sources (e.g. a Video Bumpers Module that plays Honest Trailers from YouTube)
  • You can add Audio Format Bumpers and display a video (e.g. DTS Audio Format Bumper) based on the audio format of the feature presentation

That's just a few of the bigger things CinemaVision can do. For more information, check out this thread on the Kodi forums. We currently have a few folks who use Emby Server with a Kodi front-end that use CinemaVision against their content without issue - so that's a step in the right direction!

B-U-M-P ! ! !

Can we get some traction on integrating Quizzes or Trivia NOW???!!!!!

I think it's a great idea for the future. Thanks !

I have done this for custom movie intros, just made quick 30 sec videos.

Even better let us EMBY Admins ask the questions, and make it interactive, that way when you make the questions about yourself  to see how well your friends know you and they fail miserably you can boot them from your server until they brush up on your friendship lol.

Only kind of kidding, this sounds like a neat idea though.

We've added a ton of new functionality to CinemaVision since we posted last, and are ready to talk about integration when and if the Emby team is ready!

Hello Luke - 4 years is not enough time to bring this life??

Thread Started back in 2014

let the community or cinemavision know what we need to get this working

Thanks

I thought it was a good idea then, and I still think it's a great idea now, however our core features continue to take priority over our development time.

That's absolutely fair. Any time your team is ready to whiteboard, we're happy to help. Keep growing the platform, and great work so far!
