tuvx 14 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 I have set the holiday theme, and am prompted with a message to try the holiday suggestions, however, none appear (a menu item briefly appears on the left, but then disappears). How are the suggestions populated (I have many Christmas themed movies)?
ebr 16169 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Hi. It is looking for specific genres like "Holiday" and "Christmas".
tuvx 14 Posted December 3, 2018 Author Posted December 3, 2018 Thank you, that resolved the issue. Any reason why the new genre "Christmas" does not appear under Movies - Genre (I even tried restarting the Emby service)?
Sammy 790 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Try running a library scan.Is a metadata replacement recommended or do we still have to manually add Christmas and Holiday Genre to specific titles? Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk

Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk I don't understand the question but the feature relies on your metadata - specifically genres. Those need to be there by whatever means your metadata is usually gathered.

I enabled Holiday Theme yesterday and it populated about 20 Christmas Movies as "Suggested Holiday Movies" (or whatever it is..) on my ShieldTV. I guess these are populated because I previously told Emby the Genre was Christmas and Holiday. For others that haven't manually edited the genre this won't happen automatically, will it? AFAIK, these genres don't automatically happen unless something changed since last year in the metadata that Emby gathers from the web.

Our metadata providers have those genres.
tuvx 14 Posted December 4, 2018 Author Posted December 4, 2018 I have checked for my Movies library: "TheMovieDB" (first) and "The Open Movie Database". It did not add a Holiday or Christmas genre, I had to do this manually. Example titles (that are clearly holiday oriented) include "A Christmas Carol", "It's A Wonderful Life", and "A Christmas Story".
Luke 42077 Posted December 4, 2018 Posted December 4, 2018 Correct, you can verify that on MovieDb by checking out the genres for that title.
atomicmoon 152 Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 Really enjoying the holiday theme! It will hopefully allow me to remove a library I use for this, but at the moment it's only suggesting one TV show, "Caribbean Pirate Treasure" lol. I have 65 Christmas movies, but it's not suggesting a single one of those. I haven't manipulated my Christmas movies in any way, should I manually add to their genre field, "holiday" or "christmas"? This isn't the end of the world, but would be neat to see it populate with holiday movies instead of some random treasure hunting show.
Devdroid 23 Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 (edited) Where can I set the holiday theme? Do I need the beta? I have latest stable, but can't seem to find it. My client (chrome) is set to automatically use holiday themes. Only one I can set manually is "Halloween". Edited December 5, 2018 by Devdroid

The politically correct folks that make metadata don't have them flagged. You have to do it yourself in the metadata manager for them to show up. 1
clarkss12 304 Posted December 5, 2018 Posted December 5, 2018 I don't have the Christmas suggestions either.. The Halloween suggestions are still there......... What am I missing??

atomicmoon 152 Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 Could this be achieved by tags instead of genre? I feel like a tag is more of a possible note or side-descriptor, where as genre is the most basic summary of the movie. Also, without any form of multi-editing, manually editing 60+ genre fields is probably something I'd rather ask Santa for than to do myself. 1

ebr 16169 Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 It is looking for "Christmas" or "Holiday" not "Christmas Movies" Where did that genre come from?
clarkss12 304 Posted December 6, 2018 Posted December 6, 2018 It is looking for "Christmas" or "Holiday" not "Christmas Movies" Where did that genre come from? Don't recall, some where in the past, don't remember which app I used to create that genre. I guess I can convert that tag to Christmas and drop the Movies tag.
