Primary image limit?

Hi,

Is there a good reason I am not aware of that primary image is limited to fetching/having only one in media folder? I would like to have poster-1, poster-2,etc like as it is with backgrounds. That’s one of the few unexpected strange things I noticed about Emby when I started using it ( I used only Plex where that is supported without issues) especially because every end client is focused so much on posters and zero on background/fanart/thumb (as Plex).

Maybe good integration with photo library could improve/change images-movies experience.

Anyway, sorry for bringing this up here and not in feature topic but I started it more like question than precisely feature request...

1. How does Plex allow for multiple posters?  I'm genuinely curious, because I'm trying to do it right now and can't.

2. "Every end client is focused on posters and zero on background/fanart/thumb" is not true - at all.  Emby uses thumbs for TV and continue watching.  If you want even more focus on thumbs/fanart try using Kodi.  The main problem (as I see it) is that once a library gets too large fanart/thumbs become too cumbersome to browse through.  My library is relatively small (600 movies) and it's already at the point where poster wall view is the only way to browse it "quickly".

But yes, I too am intrigued by the idea of multiple posters per movie.

We've always considered the Primary image as singular.  It is the "Primary" image :).

I don't think anyone has ever requested to have multiples and, honestly, I think trying to support that would just be overkill.

Let me try explain better. What I meant is that emby allows fetching and storing multiple background images but not for other types (primary, thumb, logo, banner etc.). That is why you can have background images in extrafanart folder or you can name it fanart-1.ext or fanart1.ext etc. What I meant is that Plex allows similar naming conventions for posters: poster-1.ext, poster-2.ext etc. which emby doesn't and I'm just curious why is that.

Btw, I use Apple TV and every similar app (emby, plex, infuse, mrmc, itunes...) uses thumbs and poster similarly (thumbs view is reserver for continue watching and TV) and I think android is same thing. I like emby web app that is allowing thumbs view and also it is allowed in iOS which I like -  but I would like to see that option on Apple TV.

I don't know what to say... It's really confusing.... this digital world... at the same time we can make unbelievable complex stuff using technology on home computers and then extra little pictures and names in database are overkill? It makes me laugh. And please... I don't mean to offend but I just can't believe it. Something's not right.

Implementation of multiple other image types across the entire system would be much, much more complex than you realize and just isn't a feature that has come up before.  I've been working on this system since 2007 and this is the first time I recall anyone ever requesting this :).

But, having said that, you are welcome to create a feature request for it in our feature requests forum.

Thanks!

I don’t think it’s necessary, I just wanted to know why. Now I know it’s because it’s complicated more than I realize. Ok. Thanks.
