pir8radio 1312 Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 I recall talk on this topic, but I can't seem to find that thread again.... I want to create a stream file that contains a RTSP stream... I want the emby clients to stream this file locally (not through the server) if possible first.. if it cant then let the server transcode.... So what i have is my server is in a datacenter, at home i am generating a RTSP stream, and at the same location I have a bunch of firetv clients, i would like to be able to play that RTSP directly to the client without needing the server.. is there any options to do that? I want the stream file to be hosted on emby though... so i can just click security cameras within emby. Hope i explained good enough.
Luke 42080 Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 Yes you can do this with strm files, but be aware that few apps will support the rtsp protocol, which means that most will be going through the server. 1
pir8radio 1312 Posted December 2, 2018 Author Posted December 2, 2018 (edited) Is there somewhere i can see what apps support it? I'm using VLC to generate the stream so i can probably pick another format if needed... Well, i guess i just need to know if firetv supports it. Edited December 2, 2018 by pir8radio
Luke 42080 Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 It's probably just going to be theater and emby for Kodi right now. It is doable on other platforms but it just hasn't been looked at yet. 1
Volfan6415 19 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 Is this doable on iOS? This would make for a good way to access my security camera streams. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Luke 42080 Posted December 3, 2018 Posted December 3, 2018 I'll have to check and see if the ffmpeg build that is embedded into our mpv video player is compiled with support for the rtsp protocol. It probably is. Just be aware though that the app will deliberately not direct play to urls that are not on the same network as your emby server. So it won't direct play anything it thinks is a remote address.

I guess i could enter my home ip range into the server right and trick it? ehh ill find a work around..
