steve1977 67 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 MBS displays a screen grab (or some other form of pic?) as a poster for all movies that do not have a valid IMDB/TMDB number. This happens although I have "screen grabber" deactivated in the metadata settings. Is that a bug or am I missing some other setting to deactivate this? Thanks for looking into this!
Luke 42079 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 it's not always active. but disabling it won't make previously grabbed images go away
steve1977 67 Posted April 20, 2014 Author Posted April 20, 2014 it's not always active. but disabling it won't make previously grabbed images go away Thanks for your quick reply. I know about it not deleting previously created ones (had this question/issue before). This thread is differrent. This is about new movies that I am adding that MBS actually does not identify and thus not add an IMDB/TMDB ID. I have the grabber disabled and it still adds a poster to them (which looks like a screengrab). Any idea what is happening?
Luke 42079 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 you have to make sure it's disabled for the specific item type, in this case movies. it should be working fine.

Actually I have disabled it for all item types (including movies). It still creates a poster in 16:9 format. If it is not a screen grab, I have no clue what it is. It does it for movies, which are added, but cannot be identified (i.e., no IMDB ID and no posters from TMDB et al). If it is not a bug, anything else that I can try to toruble-shoot?
Erik 124 Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I also have all the MBS metadata fetching disabled and the screen grabber and other image options unchecked. However, when I put a new movie into its folder MBS seems to extract an image for it right away. I have to overwrite the image when I launch metabrowser to get an actual poster image to display. Thanks
steve1977 67 Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Unfortunately still happening in latest beta. Any chance to see a fix? Thanks!
Luke 42079 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 someone will have to debug and find the scenarios in which it happens, and the ones in which it doesn't.
steve1977 67 Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 It actually happens in all scenarios (for movies). Very easy to reproduce. Add a movie that cannot be identified by MBS (i.e., no metadata added). For these circumstances, MBS adds a screengrab as poster (no backdrop, no movie description, etc.). What other info can I provide?
Erik 124 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I have gone through all the MB3 server metadata setting and turned off screen grabber in every spot. however, all new movies or TV shows that I have add keep getting a screen image created within the media folder. What info do you need to debug this? logs? or something else? thanks again, erik 1
steve1977 67 Posted June 15, 2014 Author Posted June 15, 2014 Sorry for bring this one up again. Any chance to see a fix?
Luke 42079 Posted June 15, 2014 Posted June 15, 2014 I was finally able to reproduce. Sorry about that. It will be fixed in the next server release. 1
hanzworld 0 Posted July 15, 2014 Posted July 15, 2014 (edited) I was finally able to reproduce. Sorry about that. It will be fixed in the next server release. Hey Luke: I can verify that this is still the case. Server 3.0.5306.42925 and Metadata > Services > Media type: Movies already has Screen Grabber both at the bottom of the list and unticked (MovieDb and FanArt ticked). Removed a bunch of folder images an let MediaBrowser do a library scan - and I ended up with a bunch of screen grabs. Editing via Metadata Manager, deleting primary, downloading a new primary image works, but tedious for multiple movies. There seems to be a behavioural difference between an item where the original primary was a folder.jpg on file and where the original primary is in the cache in MediaBrowser. But I've just tested with ~4 different movies and gotten different results (from screen grab to correct primary/DVD cover to no primary (defaulting to a background) to I think downloading a primary but totally the wrong proportion, but not sure about that one). If you need more, let me know. Not sure it's any use, but logs attached. server-63540979200.txt Edited July 15, 2014 by hanzworld
strugglez 8 Posted June 8, 2020 Posted June 8, 2020 I have a question regarding screengrab - I find this feature pretty good with making a tv series pretty consistent in an overview as opposed to relying on it from grabbers. The issue - I've noticed in some, it's grabbed at a really bad time and is on a screen of black or nothing. Can this be overwritten with a set time/frame and be set for the over series/season? - Maybe a feature to add if not possible atm.

We can look at black frame filtering for possible improvements. Thanks for the feedback.
