WilliamGr 0 Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 (edited) So I tend to watch movies on my iPhone Xs Max when traveling (yeah, really), and in Emby it seems like there's not many options for filling the screen (not cropping or changing the aspect ratio - I mean just actually using the screen real estate properly). For example, here's a 2.35:1 aspect ratio movie. I want to be able to use more of that space left and right/top and bottom (preferably with options to not go into the notch). I know it's hard to tell with a screenshot like this, but there's a lot of space on the sides available, and on the top. So it's possible to keep the aspect ratio correct while expanding the image. Any chance of more adjustments available here? Thanks! Edited November 29, 2018 by WilliamGr
Luke 42077 Posted November 29, 2018 Posted November 29, 2018 Hi, have you tried the aspect ratio options in the video player?
WilliamGr 0 Posted November 29, 2018 Author Posted November 29, 2018 I have indeed. It either stretches the image (Fill), makes no change (16:9), or makes it smaller (Original).
Luke 42077 Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 Are there black borders burnt into your video by chance?
daedalus 434 Posted November 30, 2018 Posted November 30, 2018 (edited) the screenshot absolutely looks like you have black borders in your video file Edited November 30, 2018 by daedalus
WilliamGr 0 Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 the screenshot absolutely looks like you have black borders in your video file I can assure you they are not. It’s Emby putting black borders around the file. I can watch these files just fine on my OLED C7 or JVC RS540 projector. Every 2.35:1 movie displays like this on the iPhone.
WilliamGr 0 Posted November 30, 2018 Author Posted November 30, 2018 Any further thoughts of when you think this might be fixed/addressed?
Luke 42077 Posted December 1, 2018 Posted December 1, 2018 Can you provide a copy of the media info from the file, as seen from the bottom of the web app detail screen? thanks.
WilliamGr 0 Posted December 1, 2018 Author Posted December 1, 2018 Yes, here's one from the movie "300." SPAAAARTA!
WilliamGr 0 Posted December 1, 2018 Author Posted December 1, 2018 I didn't follow instructions. Luke 42077 Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 So the resolution of the video file is 1920 * 1080, which is a 16:9 aspect ratio. You're saying the aspect ratio of the content inside that file is actually 2.35:1, but that's not the A/R of the video file. That can only mean one thing, that your video file has black borders in it. So in your previous posting you were asking for this to be fixed but there's nothing to fix here. I believe what you're asking for is an auto-cropping feature to be able to remove the black borders and then stretch the result to fill. 1
WilliamGr 0 Posted December 2, 2018 Author Posted December 2, 2018 (edited) I understand what you’re saying. But that’s how every single movie I have is displayed in Emby. As I said earlier, there’s no issue watching these in Kodi on any Kodi box or in VLC or any other player. Every single 2.35:1 movie I own says 16:9 in Emby. That’s movies going back years. So sure, maybe I’m asking for an auto-cropping feature. I guess I don’t understand why it’s not there in the first place if all movies get ripped and display 16:9 in Emby, Blu-rays and UHDs. Luke 42077 Posted December 2, 2018 Posted December 2, 2018 It's something we can look at adding in a future update. Thanks !
