Just tried it.

 

No it does not work unless there are sewttings that need to be changed.

Yes because that is actually "Display mode switching" but most people probably wouldn't understand that.

 

As for HDR, I'm really not sure that is supported in this version of Android...

I believe HDR works fine with Amazon prime and other apps.

 

I will Check and confirm this later.

Make sure whatever you are testing with is a full-frame video (not cropped).

You are correct.  Whilst HEVC is supported on the Fire TV (Gen 2) - HDR is not!.
