swindmiller 5 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I am still new to setting everything up and love all of the features. i know the amount of streams you can do simultaneously depends on CPU, upload speed and so on but I was just wondering how many other people have been able to do at one time. I have an i7 with 12gb of memory and one stream uses around 30% so it looks like I will be able to do 2 or 3 at one time, does that sound about right? Most of my movies are run thru handbrake at the high profile setting. Most movies are around 2-4gb (some around 8gb) with 5.1 sound. I don't have any intention on re-encoding them to be more stream friendly as i will just deal with the 2 or 3 at once. On a side note, is there anyway to offload the transcoding to another computer when the primary is at a certain percentage of cpu being used? Thanks, Scott
trusselo 225 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 (edited) depends on a number of things what client you are streaming to :-android/ios/roku require transcoding and more processing power on the server -MBC and MBT dont transcode and require minimal resources from the server the resolution of the device changes how much transcoding is needed the speed of the connection/ speed setting in the app. less speed=more transcoding. data vs wifi - see above exact codec of each file exact bitrate of that codec audio 2 or 5.1 how many kilometers must a man walk down before you can call him Canadian? swindmiller 5 Posted April 19, 2014 Author Posted April 19, 2014 Thanks for the breakdown..that helps. I knew it depended on several factors but was more curious as to what others get. Along with an actual question at the end
