Unable to Connect to Server

Hello,

 

I recently installed Emby on Windows 10. I am trying to stream on my home network using the Emby App for Android. It is unable to connect the server, either through Wi-Fi or 4G. The server is running as I have it up on the settings screen. I have also added an exception for BitDefender for the embyserver.exe program. Please advise.

I was able to get it to connect locally. However remotely it still isn't able to. I looked under my firewall rules and the embyserver.exe with port 8096 is green. I had to turn both those on for it to work locally. Other then that, the only thing I can think of based on the guide is forwarding that port. If that is the case I'll need to find my login info! Is there any other way to get it working besides port forwarding?

Only if your router has UPNP enabled, then you would ensure you have enabled "Enable automatic port mapping" under Dashboard-Advanced. But personally would recommend you never use UPNP.

I'm pretty sure that is not enabled on the router. I haven't touched it since I got it from the cable company. The Enable Automatic Port Mapping option is on in Emby

You may want to try configuring port forwarding with your router anyway. Our automatic port mapping is not guaranteed to work with all routers.

And when you went to canyouseeme.org did it say the port was open?

Yeah both 8096, 8920 are opened but still can't access it remotely!

What can I possibly do to fix this?

Yes for 8920, No for 8096

 

Error: I could not see your service on XXX on port (8096)

Reason: Connection timed out

 

Success: I can see your service on XXX on port (8920)

Your ISP is not blocking port 8920

 

I opened them in the router, and in the windows firewall

Thank you everyone involved! Had to enable Port Forwarding. It worked after that!

Well, which port are you trying to connect on?  8096 is vanilla HTTP, 8920 is HTTPS.  The latter is generally restricted for a SSL connection, which based on your posts, you don't have set up.  So perhaps you try opening vanilla 8096 and connecting via vanilla HTTP as a start.

It is "Disabled"

It appears you turned off https use (by having Secure connection mode disabled) but you moved port 8096 to the https port number and instead you are using port 80 for http.  

 

Some questions, 

 1.  Is port 80 open?

 2.  Can you connect to your Emby server using port 80?

 3.  Are you running another webserver (IIS for instance on Windows) ?

 4.  Since you are have port 8096 setup, can you change Emby http port back to 8096?

 5.  Can you try using https://server ip:8096?

  1. No, it's not.
  2. I can locally using my computer (which I set up the server from), but I can't access the server from any other device either locally or remotely!
  3. No, I'm not.
  4. I didn't quite understand what you mean with that question, sorry.
  5. I tried it, didn't work

So what to do now to fix the problem? :(

Why not just use the default ports?

How? I want to reset everything to default or create a new server from scratch but I don't know how

 

I think that may solve the issue

I did, but still can't connect to the server from any device other than my computer!

Are you on Windows? I would check Windows Firewall and see if any blocking rules have been created.

Yes, I already checked and there isn't any.
