jglazer63 22 Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 When I click the Movies section, it is showing ALL my movies instead of movies that are not in collections and then the collections. I expected collections to reduce the size of the movies list. I realize I could select "Collections" but this does not reduce the size of my movies library as I expected it would. Or is there a setting I am missing? Thanks!

jglazer63 22 Posted November 12, 2018 Author Posted November 12, 2018 (edited) http://localhost:8096/web/index.html#!/librarydisplay.html Check 'Group movies into collections'. Perfect. I set it. Setting is under Library -> Display Thanks! Edited November 12, 2018 by jglazer63
ebr 16184 Posted November 12, 2018 Posted November 12, 2018 BTW - this will be changing to a display-level setting with the next version of the server (3.6).

Bert 49 Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 Is there any way to get this working with the sort of date added? It used to work but doesn't now. It greatly reduces the number of images on this page and I would think would help performance.

It greatly reduces the number of images on this page and I would think would help performance. But date added for what item? When grouped it would look at the date added of the collection itself. Items are ungrouped as expected to be able to sort and see correct items. So you would like items to remain grouped no matter the sort option applied? If so you would loose new item in a collection with a old date.
Luke 42079 Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 Exactly, you probably don't care about the date added of the collection, but that's what it would currently do. So until we work that type of thing out with the sorting, that's why it automatically disables itself when you select certain sort orders.
Bert 49 Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 Right, you'd need to somehow read the date of the last movie in the collections addition.
Luke 42079 Posted February 13, 2020 Posted February 13, 2020 Right, you'd need to somehow read the date of the last movie in the collections addition. Exactly. There's some complexity we need to figure out but we will get there.
jglazer63 22 Posted February 14, 2020 Author Posted February 14, 2020 Even though I have the setting "Group items into collections", it doesn't. The <set></set> information is in the .nfo files but it doesn't seem to read that.
Luke 42079 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 @@jglazer63 have you created any collections?
jglazer63 22 Posted February 14, 2020 Author Posted February 14, 2020 I used TinyMediaManager to creat the <set></set> entries in the .nfo files. They work great in Kodi. Not sure why Emby isn't picking them up.
Luke 42079 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 At this time we don't use that as a basis to create collections. You can learn how to create them here: https://support.emby.media/support/solutions/articles/44001159487-collections Thanks.
jglazer63 22 Posted February 14, 2020 Author Posted February 14, 2020 (edited) Seems super easy to add a "feature" to scan .nfo files for collection names and just compile the list. I have too many collections to go through and enter them one at a time again. It also seems like it wants me to go to all the individual movies to add them into the collections yet again. Hours of effort. No thanks . I'll just live without them for now. Edited February 14, 2020 by jglazer63
Luke 42079 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Seems super easy to add a "feature" to scan .nfo files for collection names and just compile the list. There's some complexity here because remember you can create collections in other ways manually. What happens if you update the nfo to change the set tag, you probably expect the movie to be removed from the old collection, right? But what if you added it manually using the web interface, then you may or may not want the changing of the set tag to remove it from the collection. Especially if you use a third party program to update your nfo's in the background, what if you're not paying attention and it updates your nfo, and then you don't understand why items are getting removed from collections in Emby. You're probably going to come to us and tell us that collections "aren't working". That kind of troubleshooting is painful for both us and the users involved. So we have to think about all of these things and that is why it's not an easy throw-in. But yes it is possible for the future.
ebr 16184 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Collection names are also not guaranteed to be unique... The AutoBoxSets plug-in helps create most of the collections people want automatically.

I think changing the <set></set> parameter would move it from collection to collection. I don't think anyone would assume it did anything else.

What if you want it to be in more than one collection? And I do think there would definitely be confusion with multiple ways to define it in a collection. We've seen this kind of thing a lot in the past.

And I do think there would definitely be confusion with multiple ways to define it in a collection. We've seen this kind of thing a lot in the past. The .nfo format does not support more than one set (I don't think) so minimally, there should be an option to simply follow what is in that file (local scraping) and build collections based on that. If you want to do more, ie. put in multiple collections, then there may be some advanced way to do that. But we already have genres and categories that cover most everything else. "A View To A Kill" will probably always just be in the collection called "James Bond".
Luke 42079 Posted December 22, 2020 Posted December 22, 2020 Movie sets in nfo files will be supported in Emby Server 4.6.
