How big are transcoding temp files ?

Server Version 3.0.5211.41935

Hi All

I am sure the answer starts with "It depends".. What I am a getting at is a general rule of thumb. I am starting to expand my use of clients remotely. I think I understand that depending on the client and the media type somethings will be transcoded and some not. Anyway.. To save wear and tear on my ssd and maximize the user experience I have been playing around with using a ramdisk for the temp transcoding files. Does the server do any kind of space check ?

It doesn't matter much when it is just me. What I am pondering, is friends or family using my server remotely.

Thoughts, insights, recommendations or this is a terrible idea would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks everybody for making MB3 so great,

As a rule of thumb, it's something less than the total size of all files currently being transcoded on the fly, and they are cleaned up after playback. Since trans-coding is cpu limited, putting the temp files on a slower drive will be fine.
