More sophisticated previous channel handling on clients

Hi.  My cable box has a great feature I think would fit well with Emby live TV.  When you hit a button on the remote (happens to be the up button with my cable box) an overlay appears on the bottom of the screen that has the last 10 channels viewed.  The channel name, and an icon of the show currently on that channel are what is shown in the overlay.  You can arrow over to the one you like and select it to go to that channel.  Very helpful for when you want to surf more than 2 channels.

Not certain about this but wouldn’t sorting channels by last used and using the mini guide give you the same thing?

The Android TV app pretty much gives you that exact functionality now if your channels are sorted by last played.

Yeah that very much looks like it.  I use the grid guide.  But I could switch between the mini guide and grid and order to last played and not.  Or, is there a button that will bring up the mini guide with sort by last played without that being the default all the time?

No, the channels are presented in the same order right now (it is the same channel list).

Actually I discovered you can call up that channel list across the bottom with the android tv app at least.

Open the overlay then press the three dashes button as shown on the top gives you the channel list shown on the bottom.

I suspect if I changed my setting to show the recent channels at the top of the guide it would work exactly as I want.  However I find having it set that way for the grid guide to be beyond annoying.

Close though :)  If only both guide types could be configured individually for recent channels at the top :)

Pressing the "up" navigation arrow during playback of Live TV will also produce that program switcher - just as requested in the OP.

I thought I had tried that, but maybe not.  I'll look tonight, thanks!

Are we ever going to get this functionality on the roku client?  I find I miss it terribly when I swap from my android boxes to my roku tv's.

Yes.  Both this and an on-screen guide are in the plans.

Just circling back for completeness.  That indeed does work on the shield.  Since I have my like channels grouped together by channel number (nfl package, nba package etc.) it's not a huge deal that I don't have the last played at the top option on.  It's usable the way it is.  Thanks again!

I was using my other TV last night that has a Roku Ultra.  The up button and also down brings up the on screen display, but only pause is there, not the button to go to the last channel.  Nothing seemed to bring up the mini guide.  Is there a way to do this on a Roku?

Hi. This feature hasn't made it into Roku yet but will.

Thanks.

A little late to the discussion here but I am new with Emby. Making the switch from Plex.

I do notice how "live tv" at least on the Roku app, when you hit the down arrow it displays information about the show, shows the guide, quality settings, etc. It's really nice.

I would like when you hit UP to show the last few channels you have tuned to, almost like a BACK button on a remote.

That being said, this is an awesome media server. :)
