Sammy 790 Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 One of my family members is using Emby on a Roku and TV that I gave them and it seems that they do not stop playback before turning off the TV. I try to kill the stream from the server dashboard with no response. I would kill the running ffpmeg process in Task Manager but think I'll kill playback (direct stream) to my local ShieldTV's. Why won't it let me stop playback? How to kill it? Emby Server Log 20181106.txt ffmpeg log 20181106.txt
ebr 16199 Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Hi. If it is a remote connection, those operations may not work because their router will probably block it. You should have that person go into the app settings (* from home screen) and turn on "Runaway Playback Protection". 1

My brother-in-law and sister-in-law are the least tech-savvy people in the world. I will probably have to go over there to enable runaway playback protection. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk
ebr 16199 Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 You should be able to talk them through a few clicks. Literally: On home screen press "*" button on remote Arrow down to "Settings" and hit "OK" on remote Arrow down to "Runaway Playback Protection" and hit the "OK" button on the remote. Confirm it now says "ON" 1
Happy2Play 9785 Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 @@ebr Wouldn't removing it via devices kill the active session?
Jdiesel 1431 Posted November 6, 2018 Posted November 6, 2018 Temporarily disabling remote access for the user works sometimes but depending on the timeout settings of the client playback may startup again once access is given back. I think that Roku's are a little more reasonable and a few minutes is enough time for it to give up on trying to access the stream but Chromecasts will keep trying to connect indefinitely and will startup again as soon as access is restored.
