Anyone use one of these HP expander cards with an LSI 9211-8i? If yes, does the 3GB bandwidth cause problems?

I'm looking to convert a 5.25" bay, with one of these, for my drivepool SSDs.

It may actually be SATA not SAS. I'll find out when it arrives.

I wouldn’t have thought so but if I were you I’d spend a little more and get the 6gb version, just in case you want to expand some more...

The HP SAS expander works fine - i have 24 drives (HDD) hanging off mine

with the correct break out cable it should work fine with that enclosure

The HP card only needs power - does not need to be plugged into a m/b pcie slot if you are short of them

I suspect the enclosure needs SAS drives internally even though it has sata connectors on the exterior

Yeah, I think you're right. Bizarre why they would be SAS internally but SATA externally.

To use SAS drives in a "Normal" PC

I was looking at the description. It seems to suggest that it supports SAS and SATA.

Actually reading the description again on the Amazon Link - my view is that it takes SAS or SATA drives internally

and externally sata to say your motherboard / sata card / SAS card (with breakout cable)

I've got this installed, now. I love this thing. It works really well.
