WWWestern 94 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 IMHO It is useless and server's resources consuming feature. Suggestions are from ridiculous to filthy, and all the time, which is typical, completely senseless. I would like remove the feature or at least make it possible to disable.
metaman 4 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I find it rather accurate and useful. Actually impressed. Removing it entirely seems on the extreme side, but greater degree of customizability is always wanted. For now I think it's about doing things in the right order. Before greater customizability is an option, one needs to settle what the foundation of the software is and the nature in which this software is built, won't reveal its foundation until the product is finished. Which isn't yet. And that didn't make a lot of sense. Move along, nothing to see here, lol Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
AdrianW 1058 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Suggestions are from ridiculous to filthy... I thought it only suggested items from your own collection - so what "filthy" items are in your collection? 1
FrostByte 5392 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 LOL, I almost said the same thing earlier. If you don't want it to recommend filthy movies then just remove the filthy movies from your collection
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I don't think it really uses a lot of resources. Seems to be a simple search based on genres, tags and keywords. If you don't load the page, no resources are used.
WWWestern 94 Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 In my Media Library no filthy movies. But. You know about that: how from harmless components able make a poison or explosive. You know about that: how from slices cutted from newspaper make a blacmail. You all know that. I do not want to re-rendered in an awkward situation when the sequence of the movie titles on the screen built funny or insulting maxim. I do not want to impose something to me that I can not turn off. Of which neither was my reason or motivation.
metaman 4 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I believe you are free to choose other alternatives that better suit your needs. However, you need to recognize what piece of software you're dealing with. Greater customizability will come in the future, but for now they're busy building foundation. And since I never used this idiom before, here's my chance; Rome wasn't built in a day. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

I do not want to impose something to me that I can not turn off. Of which neither was my reason or motivation. I'm not sure I understood any of that... Who's being blackmailed, or sent explosives? And what do you perceive as an awkward, insulting list of movies? If I felt insulted by a movie (?), I would remove it from my collection. 1
Lee 212 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I think the point he's TRYING to make is that it proposes movies that aren't in your collection? Surely....? Sent by my HTC8X using Tapatalk

FrostByte 5392 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 It only shows movies in my collection too, and it only shows the covers of those movies, or the background for a movie that can be resumed and not some random pic from within which may be a little more offensive than the cover itself. So really it's nothing you wouldn't see if displaying your collection. Maybe they can add an option to not show suggested at the top, but for now just don't click on "suggested" if one doesn't like it. I only have one user, but I would assume another user couldn't see what I watched from their account. Maybe he's trying to say he doesn't want others to see what he watched
Beardyname 198 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I haven't seen this. It only shows movies in my collection from what I can determine. Same here, which makes it quite funny since i don't have many movies 1
FrankAZ 4 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I don't use the feature. In fact, I haven't even noticed it. But, could it be that it counts trailers as members of the collection and is suggesting those movies? I could imagine that if the machine were suggesting movies based on trailers then it would be possible to get an eye full.

I just reloaded the page 30 times and never saw a trailer listed on the page. However that isn't a conclusive test.
Lee 212 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I couldn't be 100% but i'm sure I had some show that I don't have in a gangster genre when browsing Goodfellas...
joshstix 25 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I think the OP's concern is that the software is making a call about who he is that he does not like based on his viewing history and his movie collection. My point would be that you are what you do and if perceptions caused by what you do doesn't correspond to how you see yourself it's a lot more effective to change your behaviour than trying to hide the perceptions..
moviefan 187 Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 It is only movies in the collection that it shows. OP - just don't click on the SUGGESTED tab if you don't want SUGGESTIONS! I don't see why this is even an issue. Are you going to ask them to remove the Movies tab next because you only watch the program to watch TV?
Starkadius 219 Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 I don't think this is unreasonable to ask for. I have movies in my collection that I don't want to see for example horror movies (they give me nightmares) but I have family members that do so that is why I have them in my collection. Some horror movies have other genres such as thriller/action so if I watched an action movie then one of those horror movies with the additional action genre appears as a suggested movie. Just because some users in the community have movies in their collection it doesn't always mean they personally picked them out for themselves, everyone has a different use case scenario. Another reason why one would want the "suggested" link removed is to keep the interface more minimalistic. @@WWWestern The reason you are getting the responses in the tone which they are being written by the community members is because of the way you described your request. "IMHO It is useless and server's resources consuming feature. Suggestions are from ridiculous to filthy, and all the time, which is typical, completely senseless." Anybody reading this will think you are being overly critical and difficult in an impolite way. I think the more proper way is to simply state the last part: I would like remove the feature or at least make it possible to disable. and maybe for instance "I don't use this feature and I feel it detracts from what I am trying to look for as I browse the web client etc etc". To everybody else that has been reading this thread, if you look at the location of WWWestern you can imagine there is a language barrier occurring here so I would not take his tone as being arrogant. We just have to exercise a bit of tolerance for the many cultures and language incompatibilities that exist in this wonderfully diverse community. What might seem rude in the UK or Canada (random examples) might not be in Australia or the US etc etc. 6
bigjohn 753 Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 The SUGGESTIONS tab is the default tab for TV and Live TV. Not really any way to avoid it if you use those through the web client. Seems like the ability to turn it off is a legitimate request, but not likely to be implemented because it does not affect many people. @@WWWestern, I know since you contribute by testing the latest dev builds it will be cumbersome to do this after each update, but you could write a short script that removes the following line from all html files in the dashboard-ui: <a href="moviesrecommended.html">${TabSuggested}</a> I know it is a hackish way to do it, but it might fix your problem in the short term. It is a bit harder to remove it from TV and Live TV because it is the default tab.
Tim Hobbs 91 Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 @@Starkadius - well said @@WWWestern - it is definitely something that could be placed into a user preferences setting, but I do think there are more pressing needs/wants and I have the feeling this won't be too close to the top of the list. However, I would recommend you create a feature request for the capability to toggle this on/off.
FrostByte 5392 Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 @WWWestern if you're going to put in a feature request then I would ask that you mention the ability to turn off what ever columns you don't want to see. I never have and probably won't ever use the "Studios" column myself
