mriksman 2 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 It appears that while using the remote play to DLNA feature, that the PC goes to sleep. When using the inbuilt Windows play-to in Explorer, the PC remains awake. Is there any way to prevent the PC from sleeping when Media Browser app is playing content?
7illusions 1249 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Actually, when using the MB PlayTo functionality it's not the app that streams the content, it's the server. Therefore it's not required for the app to remain active meanwhile.
mriksman 2 Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 Thanks. Don't suppose you know how to prevent the server part from sleeping do you? Is there a setting?
7illusions 1249 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Is the server running on the same machine or not? Need to know the OS..
mriksman 2 Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 Sureface Pro 2. Server and app on same machine.
Deihmos 169 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Plug it in to prevent it from sleeping. If you don't want it to sleep while on battery then go to power settings - advance setting - multimedia settings and change the battery option. Sent from my Surface Pro 2 using Tapatalk
mriksman 2 Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 I have it set to 'Prevent Idling to Sleep'. But when using the Metro/Modern App, it goes to sleep. When playing the file via Explorer and using the Play-To, the computer stays awake.
Deihmos 169 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) You have the server installed on the surface and use the modern app on the surface ? The surface will have to transcode the video and kill the battery. If that's the case then I don't know. Media browser really needs a touch friendly app for direct play. Why would you use play to the same device you are using? Maybe I am missing something. Sent from my Surface Pro 2 using Tapatalk Edited April 14, 2014 by Deihmos
7illusions 1249 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 With the new version the app doesn't transcode unless the format is'nt supported by the platforg, Eg: mkv.
Deihmos 169 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 With the new version the app doesn't transcode unless the format is'nt supported by the platforg, Eg: mkv. That sounds good. The surface pro can play back mkv by installing the codes. Will it still have to transcode? If not can that be updated in a future release?
7illusions 1249 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 It will use ffmpeg to remux the container if the codecs are supported.
mriksman 2 Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 I have the server and app installed on my Surface 2. I use the app to navigate my collection stored on a wireless HDD. When I pick a movie, I used the app to remote/play-to to my TV. Except when using the app, the Surface goes to sleep. When I use play-to in Explorer, the Surface stays awake. Or maybe the app just crashed and I thought it went to sleep... But pretty sure it went to sleep.
Deihmos 169 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I am havign the same issue when using the app. I am streaming a video here at work and after a while my home pc goes to sleep in the middle of streaming. I also notice that there is no resume in the app.
