trusselo 225 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 it would be nice to save the hard drives from spinning up so often. for this it would be nice to have better control over library scans. During the hours of 6 pm - 3 am, i do want it scanning every 15 minutes, but outside those hours, once every 2 or 4 hours, or not at all until 8 am. then every 2 hours until 6 pm again... I think most users would find that they have peak hours where content is most likely to be added, and other hours where they know that everyone is sleeping and that one movie that has taken all week to download can wait until morning.
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 You don't need to do a full scan to add content. The system monitors each folder and adds content after 30 seconds. With a mature library, you probably don't need to do a full scan more than 5 or 6 times per day.

With a mature library, you probably don't need to do a full scan more than 5 or 6 times per day. That is only if the option " Enable real time monitoring " is enabled and supported by your file system. I have real time monitoring turned off, because I use MCM and real time monitoring acts too fast and creates duplicate metadata before the movie/tv show is finished being copied to that drive.... why isnt important. an option that we were given is being used. when real time monitoring is turned off, new files being added depend on the library scanning schedule.
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) Latest versions of the server have fixes for the writing of metadata while copying. I worked with Luke to test that. I see how the option would work for you though. Edited April 14, 2014 by Wayne Luke
bluemonkey07 590 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) What versions are those? I am on vers 3.0.5215.23502 and I still have the issue where new movies are scanned before it has completely finished copying so the media info scan fails which means the movie fails to transcode... So I need to manually click on refresh data after the file finishes so that the movie can be streamed Edited April 14, 2014 by Vidman
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 As far as I am aware, it should have been in the last beta release unless it was pulled at last minute. I am on build 3.0.5216.24169. Will probably be a new build in the next couple of days.
Luke 42078 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 it was in the last release. you'll need to open a new issue. however, please be advised that the realtime monitor will not work perfectly across all file systems so for some it may be advisable not to use it.
bluemonkey07 590 Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 OK ... I'm not using anything unusual : win 8 and the drives are formatted ntfs
