chudak 24 Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 I am using guide list from http://www.teleguide.info/download/new3/xmltv.xml.gz for Live TV and Roku app won’t render Cyrillic. Is it a known limitation? Any way to make it work? Thx
Luke 42077 Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 What does it render? can you show a screenshot? thanks.
Luke 42077 Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 Wow ok, unfortunately the answer is Roku may not support it. I know this because Roku only supports a limited set of languages for subtitles, and anything else we have to burn in with transcoding. I assume this all looks normal in the web app?
chudak 24 Posted October 20, 2018 Author Posted October 20, 2018 This looks normal in browser and iOS apps Not sure about Fire TV More and more I think Roku seems not cool
speechles 2055 Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 (edited) Actually.. Its the Roboto font in the app that may not support it. I added a pull request to hopefully correct this issue. Apologies for the problem. We have fixed it. Try again with the next emby roku beta. Edited October 20, 2018 by speechles
chudak 24 Posted October 20, 2018 Author Posted October 20, 2018 Fire TV and Android clients work fine, so Roku specific.
ebr 16170 Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 Please try this with the current beta of the app. Thanks.
chudak 24 Posted October 20, 2018 Author Posted October 20, 2018 Please try this with the current beta of the app. Thanks. I see the same problem on beta as well. Did you expect it to work ?

speechles 2055 Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 (edited) The font used is Roboto Condensed Regular when rendering the guide for live tv. This is the font having problems with your Cyrillic. I doubt it is an UTF8 to ISO8859-1 issue Roku has with some things (such as subtitles/captions) as those usually cause the UTF8 byte sequences to literally become characters. There would be alot of uppercase A's with accents over them if that were so. Not just boxes. So it must be the font. The title in your screenshot appears correct. That looks Russian in Cyrillic for sure. But that is a different font than used in the guide for livetv. The issue may be I didn't get the right/perfect font for Roboto Condensed Regular either... :/ Edited October 20, 2018 by speechles
chudak 24 Posted October 20, 2018 Author Posted October 20, 2018 Can you please confirm the version number of your Roku app? Production version 3.0.111 Beta version 3.0.114
chudak 24 Posted January 20, 2019 Author Posted January 20, 2019 (edited) This is not fixed in 4.0.0.2 Edited January 20, 2019 by chudak
Luke 42077 Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 @@speechles is the app using a custom font file?
ebr 16170 Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Yes it is and he changed the font to try to account for this but I still guess we haven't gotten there.
speechles 2055 Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 This might require the use of Noto... https://www.google.com/get/noto/ Does the Roboto font display Cyrillic correctly on Android TV?

ebr 16170 Posted January 20, 2019 Posted January 20, 2019 Yeah, we're using the exact same font too so must be something with Roku.
