Is there no way to setup the server for everyone?

A corrupted profile (thanks Microsoft) absolutely kills it.

There must be a way and I am simply missing it.

I guess a better question is is there such a thing as a portable version of the beta channel?

Once installed, you should be able to pick it up and move it where ever you like...

Have you looked at the Download page?  But technically you can move the default install to any location also, assuming the that database was built after the updates made in May 2018.

Thanks guys. I would never have thought of that.

Can't be that easy. Can it??

With the database updates I have moved my desktop portable to several different locations without issue.

You still have to remember if you run as a service you need to run as a user with permissions to your library.

Well that was way easier than I ever expected.

Dropped it in ProgramData.

I wonder about updating? Probably manual move after update?

As long as the Windows user in use has appropriate rights to the target location, updates should work.

However, locations like ProgramData are typically locked to only admin modification - which is why we don't install there by default.

Thanks. Sorta figured this.

Whatever the update was seems to have caused a few other issues as well. I am going to remove/rollback and see if that cures it.

I haven't had much luck rolling back the update to Windows 10.

I go have full permissions to the ProgramData folder in Windows. When I do a manual update it does the install to C:\users\username\appdata. I move the system folder to ProgramData all is good.

Would the web update be any different?

This is the beta server.

Thanks

What are you calling a manual and web update?

Yeah good catch.  I have a shortcut to "setup.exe" I have been updating this way for some time now. The "web update" is done from clicking the link on the dash - had issues with that in the recent past, continuous loops etc so I switched.

Sorry for the confusion!

The installer will always install to default location.  Updates will update to the Emby-Server location.

As for update loops, sometimes I have seen Chrome be the cause of this.  Hitting restart and closing the browser (primarily on localhost).

So - using update from the dash will be the way to go.

Thanks for the hand holding - much appreciate it.

Don't do that.  Download a new copy of setup.exe each time you install.
