Since it appears that DIY network is a subscription channel and I don't have PAY TV, I have to find an alternative means to view your episode.  I know that Kodi has an official DIY Network port, I will check that out.  Unless someone knows how to watch it without any subscriptions.  Or perhaps, Emby has an addon that I am not aware of.

damn not available in my country, any more info on your house?

Way cool.  Congrats!

(did you show off your Emby installation? :D)

LOL @ @@ebr :) No, sadly I did not.

@@clarkss12 @@Swynol I will look into if there are any other ways

Here is a Facebook photo album I have set to "Public". It might work. It has a lot of photos of the outside but not the inside yet. HGTV/DIY asked me to wait until it aired before making interior photos public.

EDIT: FB links not working, trying to create another

Thats awesome. I love the idea of a tiny house but I don't see how it would work for us. #1, we would need one for my wives clothes and costumes. #2, I am a giant. I need to find an episode where someone 6'6 or taller is living in one.

Lol - I read that as "wives, clothes and costumes"...

How many wives do you have...?  That seems like a bigger problem than a tiny house.

Actually one episode of Tiny House Nation has them building one for a pro basketball player, Matt Bonner, at 6'10".

A nerdpad, for sure. Are you in nerdvana? I'd need a spot for my server rack, but very nice!

They did not show it Doofus, but it is hidden. When they show us putting up the desk you can see USB, ETH, HDMI and DP cables sticking out of the wall and that because upstairs in the loft one of those doors holds the server rack (4U), HTPC and the workstation PC :)

Finally got around to watching your video, and it was awesome.  Since the quality of the video that Candyman posted was fantastic, I had to see the details of the video.  For a 20 minute 1080p video, the file size was only 620 MiB, I had to see what codec it was converted to.

Using the Mediainfo app, here is what it shows.........

In case anyone here is a fan of Tiny House, Big Living my house and I will be featured on tomorrow night's (Oct 18th) episode at 8:30 PM Central time.

Episode info link: https://www.diynetwork.com/shows/tiny-house-big-living/episodes/800/techies-tiny-home

Congrats, your house is amazing! Lots of things to love here. The fold-away induction cook-top is a stroke of genius, and so are those window shades! That balcony looks very inviting for coffee breaks! That Wet Room is also a neat idea - popular in Japan I believe.

Have you considered an Instant Pot pressure cooker to augment your cooking arrangements? Instant Pot's the best because of the stainless steel insert & safety features. Black Friday is coming up.  ;)

Also, I just watched this CBC investigation into smart homes using Chinese IoT devices. Hopefully yours isn't broadcast over the net!

The link you posted is actually "Globetrotters' Tiny House", the next episode in the series. Thanks anyway!  :D

@@VaporTrail Thanks for the awesome words, bro!! :) That being said I do have an InstaPot and an Air Fryer. I use the hell out of both of them, but you are right they are hella handy and perfect space saver. Above the pantry on the right side of the sink holds a grill/microwave/convection combo oven.

And dude, you were totally right. That is not my episode* he posted but total props to @@candyman for trying :)

Yes, wet baths are popular in Asia. I had in mind more of the southern "mud room" tho for the reasons behind it. A nice place to hose down the dog. I only realized a bit late that with it at the end of the house, said dog or my boots would have to walk thru entire house to get there :) Oh well, for regular dog baths and whatnot it is still valid lol.

As to the IoT fears, that is a very real and I kept that in mind when designing everything. Right now only 2 things are outside Domino**, one is the pressure gauge for my propane tank and the other is my thermostat. Both because they ONLY offer basic WiFi connectivity and do not allow to manipulate any settings other than SSID and Key.

*   Some databases have my episode as 08x09 but it is actually 08x10

** Domino is the AI's name. It's "brain" is made up of HomeSeer, openHab and Alexa, collectively. It was named almost 3 years ago (before DP2 came out) after Domino Vitali (Thunderball Bond girl, played by French actress Claudine Auger). I am 45, not 14. ;) Domino has it's own walled off internet for extra security.

Thanks for doing the show @@Lyfesaver, it's given me lots of ideas for my own future build - from someone who's not a pedestrian when it comes to tech. Nice. Apologies if I offended.

I'm the type who won't get a Smart TV and loathe the thought of bringing Alexa into my home, but love the automation concept in a tiny home. I'll do some reading on walled off internet systems.

Didn't know about the combo oven, but that's a great space-saver. I guess there's only two questions left in my mind: what are you doing for heating, and how did you resolve thermal bridging?

The TVDB loved the design of your tiny home so much, they used it twice:P

P.S. If you haven't seen this already, perhaps where you live in Texas (or will travel to) can test out the new broadcasting standard. Will be great for tiny homes on the move:

I have been building my smart home for a couple of years. I have sorta stalled due to time and desire but going to get back to it. I unplugged Alexa from my home about 6 months ago, while I miss it, I don't miss amazon being in my house.

I am using Home Assistant and Insteon for most of my stuff. Once Home Assistant is up and running, internet is not required to use it. My Insteon is currently using their hub which does require internet. I have an older hub of theirs that I am going to switch to that is comparable with Home Assistant that doesn't require internet. I might also get a 3rd party hub that is comparable.

My ecobee thermostat also requires internet but I am ok with that. I will not get the newer models that come with Alexa.

I have done a lot of research on how to replace Alexa and I really like Snips. I have the parts to build one, I just haven't done it. Once it is installed, you only need internet for updates. It does all its processing locally for the commands.

@VaperTrail LOL, yeah that was actually me. I uploaded to episode 6 as for the first 5 weeks that's when I was to air. On the 27th of Sept.

As for thermal bridging, I am guessing the level of insulation I chose best fills those issues, aside from one place. Ceiling and floors were both spray foam insulated, but differently by different companies using different types of foam. When it comes to wall insulation I am achieving close to R45 between the R23 batts, the very cool SIS Styrofoam sheathing and thermal coated interior sheets.

All that said, even with the spray foam in the floor of the trailer, there are some cold spots on the floor in the winter, but other than that it has been great.

I can certainly understand the.... concern you have with smart things and the internet, but with caution all things can be achieved :)

Thank you both. You've given me lots of places to start my home automation journey.

Sounds like all that insulation did its job @@Lyfesaver. Glad to know what you used.  :)  According to this article, "The best solution is to wrap the building with exterior rigid insulation that cuts off the thermal bridging, provides shear strength, and protection from air & moisture penetration." https://tinyhousedesign.com/how-to-defeat-thermal-bridging/

I've personally been looking into non-toxic insulation options that are net-zero. I haven't come across an ideal solution yet, as spray foam is likely the only real option for such thin walls. Blue Jean Batts are too heavy & difficult to work with. What might help though is phase-change materials in the roof like 'Infinite R': https://www.insolcorp.com/

Have you considered retrofitting with under-floor heating? Bob at Titan Tiny Homes (in the episode before yours) sells an electric radiant floor heat system:
