I can assure you that it's not. It's working and running on my machine and the next step is to go for a larger public beta test.

On the technical side, all is ready to go for this, but it's not my decision when to go and start.

Well I am one of those with Ceton cards....5 to be exact, only 2 in use at the moment...and my biggest problem is I cannot use LiveTV because I get a double hit on the network...once for emby, once for CetonProxy and next thing you know my network is saturated and it's gigabit.  So if they need people to test this out with specific hardware I am one with that specific hardware.  LOL

Hi @softworkz,

i was recently wondering how can I test the OCR function in Emby 4.8.8.0 ?

i tried enabling it in the settings but nothing came up, is it forcly disabled in the stable releases and/or is there any manipulation to do in order to enable it without installing a beta release ?

thanks!

It's neither available on stable nor on beta right now.

Unfortunately, I can't give a plausible reason, because the harder I'd try to explain, the less sense will it make.

That's a real bummer. I was really looking forward to this feature.

It has been ready to go into beta in May 2022. That's all I can say.

Is it not possible to test it with a custom ffmpeg binary either ? I assume this new functionality is locked by Emby itself ?

anyway, thank you for developing this, hope to see it in action before my retirement then!

The Emby ffmpeg includes all those features already. There's also a range of server betas (from around that time) where it could be enabled through an option in the diagnostics plugin.
After the "normal" way for proceeding didn't work out, I had to get creative in order to get the required changes into the server, so that at least a few people could test it out, and I had done that by patching the server code during runtime in case when the subtitle features are enabled from the diag plugin settings page. This means that a specific version of the diagnostic plugin is required as well.

If you really want to go through this and install the old versions, then I can look up which ones you will need.

It's a shame you have to hack so much a product you are working with... even more because when you watch the emby show, you want to try this functionality so bad !
I noticed that in the stable release, when activating the OCR, bitmap subtitles disappear and the ffmpeg command is altered to perform the OCR but nothing comes up.

If I had more free time, I would have asked you to test it again on a previous beta release but unfortunately that's not the case. If there's a way to activate through the current stable release, I can manage to test it out more easily. I really hope you can escalade that internally and get it working on the current release even it's that means users should manually activate it through the diagnostic plugin.

Thank you again for your work on all those transcoding processes, even with the small glitches still present here and there, it's the fastest and most robust that I've tested so far :)

I had brought it to a point where it's been close to perfect but for the past two years I take no responsibility as there were quite a few changes to which I didn't agree.

For the subtitle features I hope we'll manage to ship them soon in the beta channel (yet not before the next release).
