Multi(Episode/Movie) Resume

Recommended Posts

So I love the fact the the Mutli-Episode for TV Show is very agnostic to naming conventions of the file... I'm awating for IMDB based linking for Movies :) however

When you have mutli-file for both movie/file it should remember the selection and only present that as a resume option or show a single option but when you click resume it provide the multi-file option of selecting which one to resume.

Currently we see both the 1080/4k file version in the Continue Watching

What if you watched the first 1/2 on your phone (in 480) and then want to finish it at home (in 4k)...?

Or 1080 in the bedroom and then finish it at 4K in the living room or vice versa.

This works great the way it is.

I dont think the OP is asking for a specific version to show in Continue Watching

He wants it to show once in there, then when selecting it you are asked which version to continue playing

Thats how it reads to me

Correct, the Continue swatching should only show one item, then when clicking resume it should offer the multi menu for replay.

This could be further improved by providing app specific defaults too.

I guess my question is why?

Do you not want it to work the same as the original play?

It should work consistently from a play or a resume IMHO.

It doesn’t do that in the beta... the beta has the ability to merge tv shows into a single item, similar to as movies does currently.

Also when you have merged movies it presents two Continue Watching and i’d like that to merge too.

It doesn't do that for me on Movies as I just got done testing this a few minutes ago.

However, maybe it's a client issue.  What client are you seeing this in?

Can you get us a screen shot or two of this?

I reported the same here already. I suppose it is caused by the "manual grouping of items in different folders", which behaves slightly different than the autogrouping does within the same folder. It's imho a bug that needs to be fixed. Same applies e.g. for "latest movies" and withini boxsets, the versions are also not grouped together.

Thanks for the pictures.  I totally misunderstood what you were asking for.

Now I get it, and yes I've seen it do that also and think it's a bug as well. :)

Excellent MikePlanet thanks for the info. This is the feature request to sort it out then :)

Okay, but this is ONLY a problem if you grouped these manually, correct?  If they are multi-versions by following our naming conventions, it works as expected?

Movies  - I've tried manual movies by merging and using the scripted method that was posted here https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/63643-automatic-version-grouping-for-movies/

both methods result in duplicate resumes. I'm not renaming circa 1500 files as it breaks all automation.

TVShows - Using the latest beta, it auto-grouped them and still face the same issue.

I just tried this with Avatar which I have 3D, AVC, 4K and 1080p and it worked just fine for me only listing one continue play.

These are in the same directory name like:

Avatar (2009) - 4K.mp4

Avatar (2009) - 1080p.mp4

etc

Appears to be when the cross directories then :-/
