So, I did a reset on a my Alienware X51 R2 Desktop (this is my own personal machine) because I had a few networking issues and boot issues, which were resolved by this reset.

Now, I am faced with a problem and possibly more (but who knows?)

I am unable to view any of my .MP4 files through my file system (outside of Emby) in Windows Explorer. How do I fix this?

Also, previously, I was running Windows 10 Pro & now, I am simply running Windows 10 Enterprise? What is the difference and what caused this?

I was going to do a completely fresh install of Windows, but the reset seemed to fix my existing issues, but now I am seeming to face new ones. Yay.

These files aren't corrupted (the MP4s) as I can view them on a seperate PC. At this point, I'm open to any solution.

UPDATE: I can view .MP4 files in VLC Media Player, but not in my physical windows explorer. Why is this?

What do you mean you can't "view" them in Windows Explorer? Do mean they aren't visible or you can't play them? MP4 is the container, what is the codec? You may need to install additional codecs to for native playback in Windows, VLC and Emby have the codec built into the app. I recommend LAV filters personally.

I cannot view the file, meaning I cannot play them. It's almost like it's an empty MP4, if that makes sense. How do I find out what the codec is and how do I install additional codecs? I've never done this before, but definitely open to learning.

Appreciated. Let's see what happens. And this will fix my issue hopefully?

UPDATE: Downloaded. Although, I still cannot play my files. @@Jdiesel

It should. It should allow playback in any windows app that relies on DirectShow filters (Windows Media Player for example)

Maybe a PC restart?

I am receiving error code 0xc004f011 any time I try to view a file.

@@Jdiesel, if you have teamviewer, I can show you what I mean by all this and maybe you can help me resolve this issue in real time? You seem like a nice, trustworthy fellow Canadian.

A quick search of the error code points to an error with the KMS activation server. The product key you used for windows may not be compatible with Windows 10 Enterprise, just a guess. Not sure if that is why you can't open the file but it could be the reason your are having issues...

Hmm, I didn't necessarily want Windows 10 Enterprise, as I had Windows 10 Pro. Could this be my issue & how do I fix this issue? @@Jdiesel

When you did the install it should have asked which version of Windows you wanted to install. I don't know if there is a way to downgrade without doing a reinstall. If you haven't commited much time into the reinstall I would just start over. First I would verify the license key stick on your laptop to make sure it is indeed the pro version. I think Windows 7 Pro converts to Windows 10 Pro.

License key stick on my laptop? I do indeed have windows 7 professional sp1 64 bit disk. I've never exactly done a full reinstall of windows, so I imagine, reset the PC, insert the disc and do a fresh install of Windows 7? But then from there how I update to W10?

I also have the Windows 10 install you can get on a usb stick off Microsoft's website. It doesnt seem to have an option to choose which Windows I get when I reset my machine.

Double check you are not on the N version of Enterprise

Not sure if it's available in the US, but it's a version with the media features removed

I reset Windows once more, so we'll see what happens. I don't believe I was though. @@paulsalter

Who knows? I think I definitely F'd myself here. Anytime I update Windows 10 from the Microsoft website (the free install they give), it's Windows 10 Enterprise & not Windows 10 Pro.

I still can't view .mp4 files. What do I do?

Do you actually have a windows 10 pro, key? If yes, you can make a bootable thumb drive, and install it. Although, I'm not sure if it will let you down grade. If it were me, I'd wipe and start over.

And you can buy a key on eBay for a couple o' bucks.
