Prime Time Recording Feature

Would like to see the "Prime Time Anytime" feature that is built into Dish be added.  I worked with Krustyreturns and he added it to his ServerWMC code.

Basically it allows you to select which channel and when and then single show timers are auto created  each night at midnight for the next day for that channel and time.  All the programs during the specified time are recorded.  There is also a blacklist to exclude specific programs from the bulk record.  It is an amazing function as you no longer have to remember to set timers and if there is a special show during primetime it is also recorded.

As an example, I have it set for me to record everything between 7pm and 9pm on CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX and CW, with a blacklist to skip programs I do not like.  The recorded programs are dropped into my MCE buddy folder, comskipped, properly re-named and placed into my Emby library folder where they are imported.

Works like a champ.  I want to someday stop using MCE at all and if this was added to Emby, it would be awesome.

Talk about a "lazy man's" feature. :)  Man I like it!

I would record from the same set of channels recording everything from 8 pm to 10:30 pm (ends at 11 pm) EST.

This would be perfect for the change of show seasons and you aren't aware of the new shows until after they've already aired!

You got my vote.

Exactly, my library has every new show automatically, and the ones I don't want I simply blacklist.

Tell ya what, it was the best thing I ever added to my home theater set up.  Not only was the WAF amazingly high, but I was never in the dog house for forgetting to record the Kentucky Derby, etc.

I am certain that if it was able to be added to ServerWMC then Emby may be a good platform as well.  I am sure that Krustyreturns will assist and I'd be happy to as well as he and I went through months of tweaking...

We need more flexible scheduling and it will be coming soon hopefully. :)

What we really need is a "block record".  So you could setup ABC to record a block of time from 8pm to 11pm for specific days of the week.  It would record anything on at that time and if a show/movie went beyond the end time it would continue to record the rest of it.  It would save with normal files names of what is in the EPG.

Not to make a list but we also badly need a wildcard recording of the title and subtitle so you can record anything with "NFL" in the title and "Eagles" or "Patriots" in the subtitle.  That would be fantastic for recording your favorite sports teams without getting every other team.  I'd love this for MLB but just recording MLB would get me 10 games a day right now without being able to specify certain teams.

Both of those are great needs to.  The current "prime time" code actually has the early/late logic and of course the black list.  Anything that will automate would be great.

Isn't that exactly what the OP requested here...?

That's how I read it.

I went and checked https://www.dish.com/features/primetime-anytime/ and it's pretty specific to 3 hours of prime time per channel.

So I was expanding on it so it's more flexible and not just "prime time".  This could be useful on weekends to record sporting events. Sat/Sun mornings for kids cartoons, etc.

Thus "Block Record" vs "Prime Time".

It would serve to get prime time plus have a lot more flexibility.

Examples for normal prime time, NFL and weekend cartoons.

ABC 8 pm to 11 pm Monday - Friday

CBS 8 pm to 11 pm Monday - Friday

NBC 8 pm to 11 pm Monday - Friday

FOX 8 pm to 11 pm Monday - Friday

CW 8 pm to 11 pm Monday - Friday

CBS 9 am to 8 pm Sunday

FOX 1 pm to 8 pm Sunday

ESPN 8 pm to 12 am Monday

NFL 8 pm to 12 am Thursday

CW 7 am to 12 pm Saturday

Fox 7 am to 12 pm Saturday

CW 7 am to 12 pm Sunday

Fox 7 am to 12 pm Sunday

But overall it would have the same general idea.

Okay, I was assuming we would allow the user to define what they considered "Prime" time so, in that case, that is exactly what this feature request is for.

Carry on.

The Prime Time feature as added to ServerWMC allows you to pick any channel, any timeframe, any day of the week (or all), etc.  During several months of testing, he added far more than what Dish offers.  So it I wanted to record every primetime show on SYFY for example but only on Friday and Saturday from, 7-9pm, I can do that.  It does not limit you to just the networks.  Krusty returns took my initial suggestion and created quite a powerful addition to his code.  He suggested I ask Luke about this, so I think he may be open to code share.

I'm moving on from WMC, but I'm really going to miss this feature. It's a game changer. Is anyone looking into this? Please, please, please!!

Hey @@ebr ... could  a plugin do this I'm wondering?  Not sure about the exclusion part, but block recording scheduling might be possible?

I believe a plug-in could be built to do this kind of thing.  We do hope to have these types of features in the core eventually.
