Harriharris 0 Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 I'm having problems with playback stopping at random intervals when playing on a Chromecast on my home network. I'm casting from an android phone. Shortly after starting playback, my phone stops showing that it is connected and playing the media thru the Chromecast, so I can't easily restart playback. When I reconnect the app, the remote doesn't show anything either. This is really starting to be annoying, as a 20 minute show can stop playback 2 or 3 times... What can I do to stop this happening? Thanks, harry.

Luke 42080 Posted October 9, 2018 Posted October 9, 2018 Hi, can you try lowering the in app Chromecast quality setting? Try setting it to 1 Mbps. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
Harriharris 0 Posted October 10, 2018 Author Posted October 10, 2018 Sure thing, I'll try that tonight after work. Thanks, Harry
Harriharris 0 Posted October 11, 2018 Author Posted October 11, 2018 No luck Luke. I tried 1Mbps, still failed a few times... Harry embyserverlog.txt ffmpegtranscodelog.txt
Dwarf 7 Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 Would buying the ultra version of the chromecast help or even the recently presented new chromecast which supposedly can handle 1080p 60fps?
Harriharris 0 Posted October 11, 2018 Author Posted October 11, 2018 You're reading my mind dwarf... I was talking to my wife about that today.
Dwarf 7 Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 A friend of mine has the Ultra so i will check if he is available this weekend to try
Dwarf 7 Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 (edited) So last night i gave it a try on my friends Chromecast Ultra and there were no connection error's besides about a 10 second buffering at the start, playing an x265 or x264 converted movie. Because he has an old ISP router, i didnt bother to try the 2.4ghz wifi (he doesnt have 5ghz) and used ethernet cable cat 5e. My dedicated Emby server at my place runs on Windows 10 with an; - i7 8700k at 3.7 ghz - 16gb ram at 3200 mhz - windows 10 on samsung ssd - data on 2 8tb seagate drives. - Router Asus GT-AC5300 - ISP 40mbit down and 4 mbit up Before with his first Chromecast (2015 version) he was able to stream movies from my server, but only in 720p 1mbps or 2mbps max. Now with the Chromecast Ultra (wired) he can either use the setting 'automatic' inside the emby app or switch to 1080p various mbps without any issues. Of course there is about 10 seconds needed for buffering. The Emby app is on his Samsung tablet which runs on Android 4.4 Edited October 13, 2018 by Dwarf
Harriharris 0 Posted October 13, 2018 Author Posted October 13, 2018 Thanks so much mate. I think I might be up for a couple of new Chromecast ultras by the sound of that... Appreciate the effort very much. Cheers, harry.
Dwarf 7 Posted October 13, 2018 Posted October 13, 2018 Your welcome and let me know how it worked out for you. Maybe its a good idea to try 1 of those new chromecasts first to see how that goes, because they have an ethernet option available too. Also they are supposed to be 15% faster then the 2015 version. If that doesnt work out just return it and go fo the Ultra.
Harriharris 0 Posted October 13, 2018 Author Posted October 13, 2018 Sounds like a plan. I'll let ya know how I get on. Thanks again. Harry
Harriharris 0 Posted October 16, 2018 Author Posted October 16, 2018 I can't get my hand on a gen 3 Chromecast here in Australia yet... Stores are reducing the gen 2 here right now though, so hopefully I can get one in the next couple of weeks.
Harriharris 0 Posted October 21, 2018 Author Posted October 21, 2018 Hey Luke, I picked up a gen 3 Chromecast the other day, so far: so good! I've got the playback quality set to automatic, and it all seems to be good. Now I've just gotta pick up a few more to replace the others and I'm all set. Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it. Cheers, Harry.
