Stuttering while scanning library

Not sure where exactly to look for the root cause of the issue. For a month or so now, playback will start stuttering on both an Amazon Fire TV and an Nvidia Shield when library scanning is going. My configuration is such:

1. Emby Server on Windows 10
2. Files on unraid, setup via network shares

During the scan, I see no discernible difference on the emby server to CPU/network activity. The unraid server is using 2 NICs bonded, so network throughput shouldn't be an issue. Any ideas? It's driving me crazy.
