steve1977 67 Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 Just switched from Plex back to Emby, where I had remote streaming working (automated by router). Somehow fail to make it work with Emby. I suspect I am missing something obvious, but not finding what it is. I signed up to connect and lined to my user account. On my IOS app, I can see the server, but when connecting, I am getting "we're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again". Any thoughts what I am missing?
Guest asrequested Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 Take a look at the connectivity guide
steve1977 67 Posted October 7, 2018 Author Posted October 7, 2018 Thanks for pointing me there. Still quite clueless though. I tried to enter my public address / port on my mobile (not connected to wifi) and cannot reach anything. However, I can also not reach the respective public address for Plex (though it works in the plex client to see and play my media). Unfortunately not with emby yet. Are Emby and Plex using the same technology to connect remotely? Or could it be that Emby's methodology is not compatible with my router? What else could I look for?
steve1977 67 Posted October 7, 2018 Author Posted October 7, 2018 And to add to it, I did not enable port forwarding, but also didn't do for Plex. So, was hoping I may get away without it?
steve1977 67 Posted October 7, 2018 Author Posted October 7, 2018 Also tried canyouseeme.org, which confirmed that the port is open. Still not working on my IOS app though.
Guest asrequested Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 You need to forward the port. Plex may be different, but with emby, you need to forward your server port.
steve1977 67 Posted October 7, 2018 Author Posted October 7, 2018 Mmh... Just tried this, but also not working. I can now access Emby through my browser (from the phone without wifi), so there is some progress. However, still not working from the IOS app. Still getting the same error message as above.
steve1977 67 Posted October 7, 2018 Author Posted October 7, 2018 Ok, making progress. Got the IOS app to work manually adding the IP address, but not by using Emby Connect. Something wrong there, let me look into it.
Luke 42081 Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 Compare the address you used to the one displayed on your emby server dashboard.
steve1977 67 Posted October 8, 2018 Author Posted October 8, 2018 I don't know what I have changed, but it is working now. However, it still only works now if I manually forward the port (Plex works automatic). Is this expected behavior. I don't mind the forward, just marking it as potential improvement area to make it easier for new users.

I don't mind the forward, just marking it as potential improvement area to make it easier for new users. The port has to be forwarded for either system to work. Our system will try to do it automatically as well if your setup supports that and you didn't disable that functionality in Emby. But, either way, it has to be done and, now that it is done, it doesn't need to be done again. Thanks.
