sburton606 0 Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 I have been using Emby for Windows 10 for past week without trouble. It is a very good media server. However today I tried to connect on my home network via Fire TV app and it said server unavailable. It worked trouble free every day this past week. Tried my Ipad, it initially did not work but then worked, tried my iPhone, it again said server unavailable, tried Apple TV and this again could not find the server, all of these did work previously. Installed Samsung TV app and it worked. Any idea what has gone wrong. My PC has not done any update since last using Emby successfully. I prefer to using Five TV app. Also, this is not a concern to me but I cannot and never have been able to use Emby outside my home network. I have attached the most recent server log. embyserver.txt
sburton606 0 Posted October 6, 2018 Author Posted October 6, 2018 No the LAN (home) IP address has not changed. Anyway, the apps should be finding the server. They are not except for Samsung TV and Ipad.
Luke 42078 Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 What if you enter the address manually into the app?
sburton606 0 Posted October 7, 2018 Author Posted October 7, 2018 I have tried without success entering the IP address manually. However, there has been a change. The Ipad stopped finding the server. Then a few minutes later found it. So retried Fre TV and it found a server in the normal way - no entering IPs manually. iPhone still is not finding server automatically or using IP address. All very strange. I also tried using a different browser entering IP manually and it worked - on my PC.
sburton606 0 Posted October 14, 2018 Author Posted October 14, 2018 Yes still have the problem, Ipad, iPhone and Apple TV do not find the server in my home. Have tried using a browser and no luck. Thankfully Fire TV is still working. This is a great program. So it must be something to do with IOS? Did try reinstalling but no luck.
Luke 42078 Posted October 14, 2018 Posted October 14, 2018 How are you trying to connect with the browser?
sburton606 0 Posted October 15, 2018 Author Posted October 15, 2018 I used the IP address on the Dashboard for home on iPhone and Ipad did not work on PC with the server installed it did find the server. Tried iPhone on 4G using remote IP address - did not work.
Luke 42078 Posted October 15, 2018 Posted October 15, 2018 I would suggest checking out our Connection Troubleshooter: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Connectivity Please try the steps listed there and let us know which ones succeed and which ones do not. Thanks !
sburton606 0 Posted October 21, 2018 Author Posted October 21, 2018 I had tried all of these before posting. The situation has moved on: fire TV after a power cut is not finding the server. Samsung TV is still working. All I know is my router will not permit forwarding outside my home network. Firewall is permitting Emby to work for home network.
ebr 16182 Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 fire TV after a power cut is not finding the server. What, exactly, does that mean? What did you try? What happened?
sburton606 0 Posted October 21, 2018 Author Posted October 21, 2018 I tried everything in the link above to connectivity - nothing worked. I tried these before posting this issue. Another bizarre incident is the server is now being picked up by iPad, but not other IOS apps. Still not being picked up by Fire TV app.
ebr 16182 Posted October 21, 2018 Posted October 21, 2018 I tried everything in the link above to connectivity - nothing worked. If nothing worked in those steps then you have a basic network configuration issue that must be solved. But, you still didn't tell us exactly what you did in the app and exactly what happened. Just saying "it didn't work" I'm afraid doesn't give us the ability to help you because we don't know what actually did happen. Thanks.
sburton606 0 Posted October 22, 2018 Author Posted October 22, 2018 Basic network configuration is OK. However, do not understand this but. I set up port forwarding on Mcafee firewall and all apps are seeing the server. I had thought when firewall has accepted Emby application I would not have needed to do this. Still not working on outside home network - assume I would need to set up on the router - but do not need it. Still does not explain what went wrong initially or why Ipad suddenly without intervention started to see the server. Only relieved this is working. Other than this bad experience I think Emby is the best media server and in particular, the library is the best available. Good a getting metadata, fantastic presentation.
Luke 42078 Posted October 22, 2018 Posted October 22, 2018 Thanks for the feedback, and yes, outside the network will require configuration on the router.
sburton606 0 Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 Still having a problem with Emby server on Windows 10. It worked normally on all devices for 1 to 2 weeks. It is now reporting on all devices that the server is unavailable. I have checked and no changes have been made to firewall.
sburton606 0 Posted November 21, 2018 Author Posted November 21, 2018 This is inside the network. Outside my ISP does not permit this. The problem has gone away - again and all is working. I have checked mcafee incase it remove port forwarding but no change. Ran window 10 network wizards and no problems found. Still did not work. Four hours later working.
sburton606 0 Posted November 24, 2018 Author Posted November 24, 2018 The problem has returned. Am in despair. All apps connecting via wifi stopped first. A day or so later wired app (Samsung TV) stopped working. Could the library be too large?
Luke 42078 Posted November 24, 2018 Posted November 24, 2018 No. Have you considered that it might be problems with your wifi? Try rebooting your router.
