Automatic version grouping for movies

Vielen Dank.

Is it bad that I am still using the original v1.0.0.0 without issue?  Would it make sense to update to v1.0.0.9 or leave well enough alone if it's still grouping my 1080p & 4k like is want it to?   My only use case for this is that I have a separate folder for 1080 and 4k.  I always hated searching for movie "x" and there being 2 copies showing up in Emby.

Just keep using the original version if everything is working fine for you.

I made an updated version that should fix the issue. This should also be compatible with nested folder structures, the "Top Picks", and the "New Releases" plugin. I also improved the logging a bit.

However, I did only very limited testing, so use it at your own risk and please create a backup before you try it. Do not use it if you are unwilling to restore your backup in case something goes wrong.

  AutoCollections_1.0.0.9-libraryoption.dll 181.5 kB · 85 downloads

so this version fixes it not grouping, etc?

1.0.0.9 - works for me and I just installed it. Separated my 4k from 1080p and have both libraries grouped and now I can select which version to watch. So far so good.

Does Top Picks and New Releases plugin work with this version now??

Great plugin, but can we restrict grouping just within the library scope? I dont want to mix content of different libraries.. Just group all the movies within the library scope and it will be all perfect! Thanks!

Posted in other topic but have you tested the Merge items across different libraries setting in .9?

But if you do not group all you will have multiple Continue Watching entries as every version is technically the same per providerid.

By mistake I installed version 4.6.0.22.. I removed the plugin from the server and am wondering if there is a way to split all the movies it put together? After that I would try .9 version.. thanks!

You can just run 1.0.0.9 on top of it. It will split the movies that are in seperate libraries.

...how is this not simply the default behavior? Duplicate items should be stacked, just as they are in Plex, regardless of whether or not they are in the same folder. This is incredibly stupid.

From discussion already ongoing Plex backend provider is doing the linking here so their servers are doing all this linking for you.

But since the community plugin exist there is really no hurry for core changes to accommodate this right now as there are hundreds of more important requests/changes that should take priority.

...unless you're on a hosted instance where you cannot install community plugins from a file because you do not have access to the required directory. Regardless, it should not require a plugin. Stacking multiple versions by default, as is done with Plex, is the common sense approach.

Well the person the dev is talking says most of the same requirements apply to Plex.  But either way you can manually group, group per required structure/naming scheme or the plugin.

But the question becomes why don't you have access to the plugin folder?  And I assume you could have it applied by the hosted system.  But these issues are truly out of Emby's control on are an issue with the hosting service.

Because he’s paying for an illegal service where they run everything for the users. They get a docker/vps instance on shared hardware with a shared NAS. So he doesn’t have access to the files/appdata. So if it was in the store he could install it since that’s part of emby, but since they don’t allow access to the app data and such he can’t.  These services pretty common for all the platforms. How they get around share selling.  Also how the share selling works many offer dedicated nodes for the ability to resell for like 100$ month, the individual boxes like 15-20 and come with hundreds of tb of media.  Also why plex banned/blocks hetzner ips so servers can’t be used from their data centers as its where most host out of.  I’m sure @ebrwould see thousands of servers registered from hetzner ips if they look/traced when users apply the premium keys.

Hallo,

@Happy2PlayDo i get this right:

emby groups automatically movies, out of diffrent paths, WITHOUT the Automatic version grouping plugin with a name scheme?

is there are something in the docs?

Server require all to be in same named folder

Movie Naming | multi-version-movies

Wont work with the same foldername, when its in another subdirectory

example wont work, even if the both path are in one libary:

A:\HAUPT\x\SAMEFOLDER\movie.movie

A:\HAUPT\y\SAMEFOLDER\movie.movie

Correct if media is not in same location you can only manually group or use this plugin.

It has been brought up before but not sure if anyone has looked at it as the plugin was only design for movies.

That's a shame. This plug has helped tremendously for movies in that respect.
