Controlling Playback on another device

Here's my use case. When out of town, we often find ourselves wanting to watch a show or two via Emby remote. Remote player is iPad (IOS). So, it's running Emby, and attached to a TV via HDMI. Now a commercial comes up, and, I want to fast forward past it.

 

I can get up, and, hit FF on the iPad, and, it skips 30 seconds, etc. But it sure would be nice to be able to do that from a second device without getting up every 5-10 minutes. 

 

I can see the cast function on the server via the web interface. That's great, so I use that to try and control the iPad. It shows me the progress bar, and, the same buttons such as FF, stop, etc. I hit FF and expect it to skip forward 30 seconds, but it does not. The iPad skips to the end of the recording!

 

I note it does work from the Emby app on another device, I can indeed skip forward 30 seconds. Just when using the web interface to the server, it does not. Is it supposed to work?

Hi, I have a similar question and I need a little clarification if possible.

If I'm playing music on Emby on a laptop in another room, let's say, and I'd like to just at least pause/play from the other room I'm in, how can I do this?

I have the emby app on my phone as well as on the other computer im using in the other room.

Install unified remote on laptop and set up. Then there is a app for your phone. It is free with a paid option but to do what you want is free. I use this on my setup for outside works perfect.

the laptop i want to control is running Linux Mint though. i hope there is a version for it

They Emby app on your phone can remote control other Emby apps. Just click the cast icon in the upper right and select the device that you want to control.
