Re-arrange movies in Collections / Box Sets

Sorry if this has been asked (I quickly scoped the forum and couldn't see it).  Can I re-arrange the order of movies in a collection?  For example, the Star Wars movies would be arranged by release date or series order, but what if I want to arrange in chronological order (Han Solo is actually ahead of Rogue One which is ahead of A New Hope, etc)?

Yes you can set the order - in the Star Wars collection screen - edit the metadata and change the display order value -> sortname

and then set the sortname value for each movie so they sort how you want

Works fine

PS - its nothing to do with plugins

Thanks for quick response.  Thought it might have something to do with "sort name" and assigning numbers for example.

Thanks again

So.......I don't suppose that for the regular library view I can leave titles in alphabetical order but for Collections, display titles based on sort name?

I'm trying to do a Marvels Collection and put the movies in the right timeline, however if I just view my library aside from the Collections, these will all follow the "sort name" and not title.  Any way to choose display view in libraries other then Collections?

Example:  I have a "Blu-Ray" library where all titles are sorted alphabetically.  I have the Collections library display by "sort name" so I can arrange the included movies in the order of my choosing.  I would like the same "display" option in my "Blu-Ray" library as my Collections library

Have you explored the display order setting in the metadata editor for the collection?

Well Emby already sorts your Library by Name with "Sort Name" if present by default.

Example the movie "A.I. Artificial Intelligence" is sorted to "I" if there is no sort name listed since "A" is a sort remove word.

Yes.  If I click on Collections and pick one (say Star Wars Collection), if I enter the "edit Metadata" it gives me the option to display the contents of the set by "release date" or "sort name."  It would be great if libraries other then Collections (example "Blu-Ray") have the same option in the edit Metadata, but it doesn't.

That way, I could arrange the titles of a collection based on "sort name", but have the same titles that comprise an entire library outside of Collections arranged by "Title" again alphabetically.

So want normal library sorting to ignore the sort name and only sort by title?

Or at least the option as in Collections.  Lol. I know it sounds "anal" but I like the normal library to display by "title" so everything sorts alphabetically, and the Collections library to display by sort name.

I guess the really issue is what is being used for sort name.  But you are the first for a request for ignoring Sort Title as everyone else prefers the use of the filled in Sort Title field.

This would mean you don't group into collection in library view either.

But none of this has anything to with the plugin.

Die Hard in my normal library collection is alphabetical based on "sort title" field, which means that the first 3 movies are in succession (Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Die Hard: With A Vengeance) but "A Good Day To Die Hard" and "Live Free Or Die Hard" are located under G and L so separated.  I understand that I could use the "sort name" and list all five as "Die Hard 01, Die Hard 02, and so on so that they all would appear together.  Collections would also place the movies in correct order.

But with something like having a "Marvels" collection where there are multiple movies, I would like to keep the titles alphabetically in the normal library so Captain America is in the "C", Ironman is in the "I" section, etc but arrange in chronological order in my Marvels collection by utilizing the "sort name."

I don't want to search the normal library for Captain America, thinking that it is in the "C" section when it is actually found in whatever my sort name states (Marvels 01 for example).

I guess that would be a feature request for sorting to not use Sort Title for items.

But you could "Group items into collections" and not have this issue in normal view also.

Or add the option in the "Sort" filter of the library to include listing based on "sort name" along with "name."

Problem is there is only a finite number of movie collections that have a skewered timeline (Fast and Furious, Star Wars, etc) so it's probably not a practical feature request.  But what about a simple "drag and drop" of the titles within a collection to have them arranged in any order?  I see that you can choose titles in a collection then there is an option menu of things to do with the selection.  Make "swap" one of the options

Have you explored the display order setting in the metadata editor for the collection?

Why did this function get buried in the metadata editor? You used to have it prominent on the collections screen as a combo box and it was a very convenient simple click to order by release date, sort name, title. As it is now, it's not convenient and user-friendly to switch back and forth between sorting views.

It was never there.
